According to Alan Foster's book THE MOVIE TRAVELLER, the cafe that was smashed up in QUADROPHENIA was at the corner of Kings Road and Ship Street in Brighton and is now a chip shop. The cafe where the Mods had breakfast was The Waterfront Cafe on Madeira Drive

There is a fascinating book called "Your Face Here" (Fourth Estate 2002) -the stories and locations of British cult films since the sixties. Quadrophenia is one of the films featured and the book contains all the locations featured in the film. Is states that "Alfredo's Cafe" is on Essex Road, Islington, London.

In the Summer there is a Quadrophenia locations tour around Brighton. The tourist office should have details.

Alfredos was a great cafe, with stunning art deco furniture. It is/was on London's Essex Road (no. 4-6) at the junction with Islington Green, in Islington. It was closed down a few years ago, but has been re-opened as a restaurant and even has a sign saying it is the location of the old Alfredos. It can also be seen in the movie Mojo.

    Villan,

I saw Quadrophenia in high school and am wondering where Jimmy rode his scooter to at the end. Was it Beachy Head?

It was Beachy Head. A notorious suicide spot to this day.

    Hi Alfarin,

According to Ali Catterall & Simon Wells excellent book "YOUR FACE HERE", 'Jimmy's Alley' is at Little East Street in the backyard of a Chinese Restaurant.

    cheers,

    Chas.

According to Gary Wharton's "Chasing the Wind: A Quadrophenia Anthology", the Cooper house was in Wells Home Road, Acton and the party took place in Kitchener Road (however, the entry mentions that there are several Kitchener Roads in the London A-Z!) with interior shots filmed at Lees Studio in Wembley.

I must have had my breakfast a thousand times in the 50s in Alfs.. I used to work in the timber yard almost next door, (thanks for the memories)

I was thrilled when I realised that the gate that they have sex against used to lead up to a flat that a friend of mine lived in

Cheers for the Cooper house address! Been looking for that for ages! Incidentally, I am a tv and film sound recordist and have worked at the party house in seen in Quadrophenia. Is actually Clarendon Road near the Lee International Studios in Wembley and the Quadrophenia party interiors were, (unusually), shot in the actual interior of the house, hence the rather stylised lighting you see in the film. Very difficult to light such a small place for film, especially at night, gives a very flat response from the film stock.

Conversely, thanks for the "Kitchener Road" addy. Not even Franc Roddam remembers that! The (few) locations we couldn't identify in Quad for "Your Face Here" were the housing estate where Jimmy's scooter met its sorry end ("Mr Postman") , and the boxing ring inside the pub (although the IMDB lists the exterior at least as "outside former Wellington PH, North Hill, Highgate, London, England, UK" )

    Best
