hi, does anyone have a comprehensive list of the films made in liverpool 40s thru 70s, also where i might obtain some of them ,cheers
    The IMDb lists:

    Children on Trial (1946)

    Dick Barton Strikes Back (1949)

    The Magnet (1950)

    The Clouded Yellow (1951)

    Ferry Cross the Mersey (1965)

    Help! (1965)

A Cathedral in Our Time (1967)

    Gumshoe (1971)

Volcano: An Inquiry Into the Life and Death of Malcolm Lowry (1976)

If you expand the location search to Merseyside in general then you also get:

The Haunted House of Horror (1969)

What's Good for the Goose (1969)

I'm pretty sure that parts of 'The File of The Golden Goose' (1969) were shot in Liverpool

    Thank you.
A lot of the filming was done around Gerard Gardens tenement block which was built in the late 1920's/early1930's and demolished by a short-sighted Liverpool Council in the late 1980's.

Below are images of the block from 1937 and 1966.

Hey plasticjock, those pics look like the Bull Ring? a real no go area in every sense of the word when i was a kid, where abouts was this tenement block?

Also as for the Magnet, im stuck on one of the locations in Liverpool, ive been making photos of all the places from it recently to see how they look compared to back then, might do a web site about it. One thing im stuck on though is this bit below. I know its the docks as you can see the Overhead railway, but none of the local history books i have include this building, can you help?

Plenty of info here, kidder: http://gardensofstone.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/

The webmaster of this site has, just last year, finished a documentary about Gerard Gardens and the other Gardens of the surrounding area. To view a trailer of this film don't use the link on his website, it's not working, go to: http://www.scottiepress.org/gardensofstone.ram (you'll need realplayer on your system).

Here is a comprehensive list of movies:

    Waterfront 1950

    Violent Playground 1957

    Ferry Cross the Mersey 1965

    Dangerous Youth 1957

    Beyond This Place 1959

The Little Ones 1965 (a CFF Film)

There was also a documentary from 1971 by Nick Broomfield (his very first, only 17 minutes long) about Liverpool City Council and their far-sighted policy of demolishing inner city housing and shepherding the inhabitants to high-rise rabbit-hutches.

There has also been many videos & dvd's of the Liverpool & Merseyside of days gone by with much nostalgic film images. Of particular interest would be film of trams, buses, trains & the Docks for images of streets and buildings that have changed considerably or even disappeared.

A visit to Dave Woods wonderful site is always worth a visit:

Liverpool images and photographs Liverpool Views

Check out his links as well.

    If you go to

    Liverpool Home Portal

Click on football dvds and then click on video Alex Young's Golden Vision is there.

I have never bought anything from there cannot say what the service is like but it appears that the video was released in 2003. You could try Everton FC or Radio Merseyside.

    Good luck

The tall building in the background forms part of Seaforth grain terminal. Looking at it from the river the surrounding buildings could have been demolished and replaced with large grain silos. Between the tall building and the river is a dock where they unload scrap metal from the ships. Within 100 yards you also have the first of 10 (?) wind turbines. I haven't approached it from the road but I should imagine the Dock Road will take you there.

If you enquire at the local library there is a good chance they will have photos as Liverpool Engineering Dept in the early fifties were far sighted enough to take photos of all the roads and streets in Liverpool. These are held at the main library.

    best wishes

    Freddy
