It was filmed in Nottingham, but I would be surprised if the pub still exists, as a lot of development has gone on there since 1960.
The pub where Arthur fell down the stairs was the White Horse on Ilkeston Road - its still there.
All the location shots were in Nottingham except the Goose Fair which was shot at Merton in London.

The IMDb reports that one pub exterior at night (possibly when Arthur gets beaten up) was shot in Sheepcote Lane, Battersea.dylan:

Electronic Yellow Pages reports that there are 3 pubs in the UK called "The British Flag". One in Harwich, one in Bridgwater and one in Battersea.

Thanks for all your replies, as a new member i will have a lot of questions to ask as i have been a British film fan for years and have some 550 films in my ever expanding collection and have just gone from video to dvd. Watch this space!
A good Saturday Nigh Sunday Morning location is Nottingham Castle - if you go through the (v. nice) caff you're where the ramparts scene was shot.
I lived in London until 1975 when I moved to Nottingham, and as one of those things you just have to do, I extensively researched the locations for this film.Originally posted by willan@Oct 26 2004, 12:21 AM

Most of the location filming was done in Nottingham, and I just about identified all of the places.
But I ascertained that some of the filming was done in London.
The British Flag scene and the following scene where a train crosses a viaduct in the background under a strange bridge was in Battersea, London.
The road name on the pub side is Sheepcote Lane, but that part of road changed its name after the film and is now Rowditch Lane. The following scene looks along Culvert Road, and you can see a signal box on a gantry up on the viaduct. I believe the British Flag is still there. The scene where Albert Finney rounds a corner and is attacked was outside the British Flag pub.
There is also a daytime scene in a housing estate/park with trains shunting up on an embankment. I could never locate that in Nottingham.
The cinema that AF and Norman Rossington come out of just before the pub scene was the ABC in Nottingham City Centre - and that area has been re-developed in the past few years. The other cinema he leaves with, I believe, Doreen (Shirley Anne Field) was the Savoy, Lenton, Nottingham which is still there.
The scene near the start of the film where he runs for a bus is down Derby Road between Canning Circus and the city centre.
Where is the final scene of the film shot, where he's in the field with Doreen looking over the housing estate where they plan to live.
Cheers,
A
The ABC gone ? That's where I originally saw Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. Arthur catching the bus raised a laugh in the cinema - he left his house in Radford for a night on the town in Nottingham but runs for the bus as it nears the city centre.Originally posted by JohnMartin@Jul 11 2005, 12:41 PM

As regards the ABC cinema, the whole block (bounded by Chapel Bar, Mount Street, Maid Marion Way and Upper Parliament Street) was completely demolished and redeveloped over the past few years.
A few locations lack enough information to be able to identify them.
The closing scenes location shows a hoarding for the builders W J Simms Sons & Cooke, who in those days did build some estates in Nottingham. The only place I could find where there would have been grassed slopes overlooking sprawling housing estates sloping away like that, and where that company did build around that time, is along the corridor now followed by the western orbital road (Bilborough Rd/Woodhouse Way) and overlooking the Broxtowe and Bilborough Estates, and that is the best guess to date.
Looking for locations in other films has shown me that you can't always rely on grassy knolls, they can get built on as well.Originally posted by JohnMartin@Jul 12 2005, 11:34 AM

Is there anything further away (big buildings on the horizon) that might give a clue.
Steve
What could be the River Trent can be seen in the background. I asked someone today who has lived in Nottingham all their life and they have narrowed it down to where a bit of comparison of old streetmaps with the film might well give the answer.Originally posted by Steve Crook@Jul 12 2005, 06:19 PM

At the ext reme south of the "corridor" that I surmised above, there is an area called Bramcote Hills, and he reckons it was filmed there - and that is from recognising it when he saw the film in those days.
I'll report back if I get any further.
As A Nottingham Ex pat (away for 23 years now) I have always believed that the end scene was from Bramcote Hills looking towards Stapleford. The ABC is not the only area to be redeveloped. The Raleigh bike factory has all made way for student accommodation. Whilst I'm on the subject of Silitoe in film has any one seen the film version of 'Ragman’s Daughter' in the last 10 years or so?
The ABC cinema used in this film was the ABC Elite cinema. This was not the same as the ABC on Chapel Bar which has as stated now been demolished. It's quite an ornate building that still stands on Upper Parliament Street today. It's covered in white tiles on the outside.Originally posted by JohnMartin@Jul 12 2005, 10:34 AM

Could have been somewhere near Toton sidings? I'm not sure, but just a guess. There is also a daytime scene in a housing estate/park with trains shunting up on an embankment. I could never locate that in Nottingham.
I've found a link that displays a page of Nottingham's cinemas both past and present if it's of any help.

With the aid of a 1960 Geographia Street map of Nottingham, a Kelly’s Directory of the Streets of Nottingham for 1956 (sort of cross between a Yellow Pages and an Electoral Register) that I found in a cupboard at work (!) and 17 years residence in Radford / Lenton, Nottingham I thought readers might be interested in the following.
The British Flag – certainly no Sheepcote Lane (visible in the film) in Nottingham in 1956 or 1960 so this scene must have been shot elsewhere.
Pub where Arthur Seaton falls down the stairs: many people locally have told me this was the White Horse on Ilkeston Road, as posted here.
Does anyone know which pub scene is used for the bit where Arthur first sees Doreen? I wondered if this was a set but it has an old poster in the background for Hanson’s Ales (aka Kimberly brewery, now Hardy’s and Hanson’s) local brewer to Nottingham then and now, so if it was a set they went to considerable trouble to be accurate so I expect the scene is in a local pub.
Other bits
Opening Scenes: Where employees leave Raleigh and cycle out they cycle along Faraday Road towards Derby Road under the bridge (with clock) that connected the Raleigh Works on the east side of Faraday Road with the newer parts of the site (1950s built) to the west of Faraday Road and the railway line to Mansfield – OS grid 455500,339500. The scene cuts as a shop awning comes into view on the right. This is the corner shop (now a house) at the corner of Faraday Road and Cycle Road in Lenton. I know this because I lived here in 1989 when Raleigh still occupied this whole area and the bridge still took part assembled cycle stuff between the two factory sites.
Castle Views over railway yards: The arches where Arthur and Brenda meet are now a glazed in part of the café at the Castle – as stated elsewhere. The view of the railway yards is out towards Wilford Power Station and Clifton Colliery (visible in the distance) – both now demolished but some of site now used for Riverside Retail Park off Queens Drive (the A453). The railway yards are where the Inland Revenue and magistrates court are, plus the Castle Marina development. This is NOT a view of the Eastcroft Waste Incinerator as stated in a loud whisper by the person sitting near me in the cinema 2 days ago. That would almost certainly not have been built when film made.
Daytime scenes with trains shunting on embankment in the background (when Doreen criticises Arthur for only taking her out to deserted places in the day time). I’ve often wondered about this, but now think this would have been filmed near Victoria Embankment in the Meadows. The 1960 map shows tennis courts here (near Wilford Grove) and they are standing near tennis courts, but more significantly the Great Central Railway ran south from Nottingham to cross the Trent here. At this point the map shows engine sheds and carriage sidings beside the railway line. When this line closed in the late 1960s this embankment was removed and the ‘New Meadows’ built on the site of these carriage sidings – could this be the place?
Fishing in canal scenes with Bert. I’ve not been able to pin these down. At first I thought this would be on the Beeston Canal near Dunkirk, but this never seemed to quite fit (HT power lines are clearly visible overhead), more recently I’ve wondered if this was filmed on the old Nottingham Canal at Wollaton (now mostly filled in and more or less under Torvill Drive – yes as in Torvill and Dean!).
Scenes at the Social Club. I believe Raleigh had a sports and social club at Wollaton (near Martin’s Pond) could this be filmed here? The club has ‘IWC’ above the door – what does this stand for and could this have been filmed elsewhere?
Catching the bus into town: As stated here, definitely on Derby Road opposite the site of the old Hooley’s Garage – now itself demolished and replaced by ‘city centre living’ apartments. The funny thing is that the traffic flow here has been altered so this road is one way in the opposite direction now – ie out of town only.
View from aunt Ada’s house. When Arthur is hanging around outside Aunt Ada’s house he is looking across Derby Road from near the Savoy Cinema towards a church on the north side of the road (which still exists), near the former Cottesmore School (now the Sandfield Centre – LEA council offices in the former school). This places Aunt Ada’s house around the corner of Willoughby Street and Derby Road, Lenton. This whole area of housing was demolished to build the 5 Lenton High Rise flats, which still stand.
Arthur Seaton’s home: Arthur is regularly seen cycling / walking into Beaconsfield Terrace. Not shown on the 1960 map due to its small size, but listed in the 1956 street directory, this alley way with a block of houses is off Salisbury Street. Salisbury Street itself runs down to Faraday Road with Raleigh works entrances visible at the end (this bit of Raleigh was demolished in the late 1990s to build Sillitoe Court student accommodation), and gasometers beyond (still there). Nearly all of the older housing around Salisbury Street was demolished around the 1970s and replaced by a rather nice housing association estate on a revised street pattern (but using the old street names).
But now for the interesting bit, the 1956 directory lists head of household. At 5 Beaconsfield Terrace is listed ‘Sillitoe, Christphr’ so does this suggest that the interior and exterior shots of Arthur Seaton’s house were filmed in the Sillitoe family home? It is my hunch that it does.
I'd welcome any corrections / comments on my suggested locations.

There are two fishing scenes in the film. The first shot shows AF and NR cycling onto the canal. This was shot at what is locally known as RED COW bridge on Lenton lane, a public house some 50 yards away. The old wilford power station can be seen in the background. The boat yard where the boats can be seen is still there but houses now occupy the area wher they cycle down. Where they actually fish is further upstream on the none tow path side. The canal here shows a slow left hand turn and a bridge base can be seen in the top left hand corner so by deduction the only place this could have been shot is between Thane road bridge and Redford road bridge. The second fishing scene is on a small pond with pylons overhead indicating a local power station, and not much else to pinpoint it but in the 60s there were two ponds on the site of the central tv studios on lenton lane not far away from the red cow bridge and and Wilford power station, this could well be where this scene was shot.
The scene where AF meets Doreen is locally believed to be the Peachtree, now Langtrees, a public house in Foremann street Nottingham
