The ambulance passes the Procter Street/High Holborn junction:

The principal's car is seen heading west along The Strand WC2:

    ...and enters Trafalgar Square:

    ...before turning into Northumberland Avenue:

...where the timing device activates and the vehicle crashes:

One of the gang watches from Embankment Place:

....before heading off along Victoria Embankment

The ambulance is then seen travelling along Duncannon Street, back towards The Strand:

    ...and along Holborn Viaduct:

The gang meet up in Harbridge Avenue SW15 and make off in the Jag, having been spotted by Charlie Delta 2, and the chase is on:

Hi, GBC here from the Sweeney Forum.

    Hi all!

Great forum. Just one small correction on the above clip, it's Euston Road heading East towards the underpass, that's Great Portland Street LUL Stn in the background.

    Cheers, GBC

Thanks GBC , unfortunately I can't amend my original post. I'm hoping to post some of these over at the TV Lounge before too long as I'm sure posters there will be able to help with the W9/W10/W11 unknowns.

Thanks to Wee Sonny MacGregor for identifying unknown 1 as St Marks Rd W11.

I thought Unknown 1 was the same street with the church - St Mary Magdalene's? - seen as a glimpse before the later shot of the jag racing past and the camera panning 180deg?

The shop on the right is M R Price which was at 18 St. Marks Road. I don't think the camera pans completely 180 degrees, IIRC there's small edit between the shot of the getaway car and the pusuing police car.

    Were M R Price an undertaker's?

I can only get M R PRI... on my grab - so was looking for Prince, Pringle etc etc.

I've checked some mid 50's OS maps and it turns out the church was St Marks - can't find a great smudge so far but this is the best so far:

Definitely a single panning shot through 180 along St Mark's Road - the church and almost all of the surrounding buildings long since demolished.

That would also make the furthest row of houses in the Unknown 1 grab the rears of Rillington Place. Number 10 is just out of shot to the left.

Thanks Harry, I think we're talking about two different shots here - the confusion being that they used the same stretch of road twice. Unknown 1 is taken at 11:17where the getaway car is seen from the rear only. The next shot is unknown 2 but the camera doesn't pan around. I think the shot you're thinking of is at 15:08 where the church is visible as the car approaches, seen from the front, and this time the camera does pan completely. It's taken from the other side of the road from unknown 1 but the white estate car is still there (although facing the other way) as is the removal truck.

Any ideas what junction the church was on? I was talking with WSM about the possibility of Rillington Place cropping up but if that's it to the left then presumably the church would've been near Cornwall Crescent?

Still need help locating unknown 2 if anyone's got any ideas as I can't seem to make it fit with my 1968 road atlas. The closest I can get is St Charles Square?

Queensdale Road is then mentioned but I haven't got a grab of that to hand to confirm at the moment so the next road I'd like to identify is this, if anyone can help, unknown 3:

and unknown 4 (could be the same road):

The church was between Cornwall Crescent and Blenheim Crescent, and apart from the two rows of shops in the foreground, it’s the only building in the screengrab that hasn’t survived.

    Dale Row marks the spot.

Although I haven’t found it, the index of my 1957 map puts Rillington Place in square M, which is to the left of the vertical line, some distance from St Marks Road. I think all you can see in the background is Lancaster Road.

and unknown 4 (could be the same road):

The first picture is Ladbroke Grove looking towards Notting Hill Police Station, the church by St Johns Gardens is just out of view on the right, in fact you can just see the sign. The second shot is further North up Ladbroke Grove still looking South.

Just as a foot note, I think that drinking fountain structure you can see on the right is still there today!

It's definitely Rillington Place in the background - I'll scan in the 1955 OS map.

Thanks Alan & Harry. Rillington Place was renamed Ruston Close (sometimes confused with Ruston Mews which is on the other side of the road) before it was redeveloped and became Bartle Road.

I was wondering what that structure was on the pavement - strange place for a water fountain.

GBC, are both of these shots taken between the north & south junctions of Lansdowne Crescent & Ladbroke Grove? I think I can place 4 on the map but having trouble with 3. Thanks for the info.

From livemaps they look pretty close together - that would place the fountain in 3 outside the church entrance. The block of flats looks to have been extended since the film but the road layout matches up.

    Another spot for GBC

That would make the camera shot for 3 taken from the junction of Kensington Park Gardens and Ladbroke Grove.

The traffic island they probably set up on looks to be still there as well.
