I see that there's a programme on BBC4 on Friday about Steve Winwood

    Steve Winwood: English Soul

    BBC 4

    Friday 18th June 2010

    21:00 to 22:00

From childhood prodigy to veteran master, Steve Winwood's career is like a map of most of the major changes in British rock 'n' roll and R&B from the 1960s to the present. This profile reveals a master musician blending Ray Charles and English hymnody into his own unique brand of English soul, from the Spencer Davis Group, through Traffic and Blind Faith to a solo 1980s career. It features interviews with Winwood, Eric Clapton, Paul Rodgers, Paul Jones, Paul Weller, Muff Winwood and Dave Mason.

    That is then followed by

Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood Live at Madison Square Garden

    BBC 4

    Friday 18th June 2010

    22:00 to 23:00

Reunion concert by Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood at New York's Madison Square Garden in 2008. The rock legends took to the stage together for just three concerts in a highly anticipated collaboration, performing hits including Clapton's After Midnight, Winwood's Dear Mr Fantasy, and Blind Faith's Presence of the Lord and Can't Find My Way Home. Since Blind Faith's final show in 1969, the pair had only performed an occasional song together at charity events.

    But my question really is...

When did Steve Winwood grow up and stop calling himself Stevie Winwood?

    I've got that LP.

I hope that programme is shown here. I'm a massive Winwood fan, he is a phenomenal

talent. He stopped being referred to as Stevie when he

left the Spencer Davis Group & formed Traffic!

    Highly essential stuff...

The Garden gig is magnificent and I'm proud to say that one of my dearest friends is playing drums...Ian "Ianto" Thomas. There's lovely.

Here's a clip of Little Stevie...way too soulful and funky for eighteen.

(He's also fastidious with regard to his barnet !)

The Madison Square garden concert was sublime. Virtuoso performances from two great musicians. Hopefully it's been released on CD, must track it down.

The Mulberry Bush soundtrack is superb. Some excellent Davis/Traffic tunes and topped off with Andy Ellison's brilliant It's Been A Long Time.
