Jackie Trent was apparently discovered on an earlier type of 'Opportunity Knocks'show on BBC TV (no Hughie Green)
...And of course since then (often with her one time husband Tony Hatch) has written some wonderful music, as well as singing in gigs all over the place .

Nothing to do with me but a shameless plug for a national treasure

An Evening with Jackie Trent - (in her home town).
    Weds 22 June 2011
    The New Vic Theatre,
    Newcastle-u-Lyme, Staffs

I recorded Jackie Trent for her first broadcast on Radio Luxembourg. The programme was The Bert Weedon Show and instigated by Bob Brown (ex-Stargazers). I still have copies of the tapes. If you go to my website Sounds « 208 It was Great Radio Luxembourg You can scroll down the juke box and hear her sing 'S'wonderful'.

    Superb website earlb
IE so neat and everything works and some cracking recordings from Jackie and just about everybody else from those times.
Jackie sounds very nightclub singerish on that track, but that voice still thunders over waiting to be 'hatched'

I couldn't agree more - absolutely wonderful! I remember many of those sounds so clearly. I was a bit of an EMI fan in the early 60s, so I remember David Jacobs, Ray Orchard and Sam Costa in particular. Another favourite was Tony Hall's America's Hot Ten on a Friday night, possibly. I think it was introduced by Bill Black's version of Don't Be Cruel.

Thanks Geoffers. I still have a gold tie pin Tony Hall had made for me with the logo A.B. 208 was like a big family really.

Thanks a lot w.e.c, I'm glad you enjoyed listening. It's amazing the letters I get to the site asking questions about yesteryear and the great 208. You can come out from underneath the bedclothes now and listen BUT unfortunately not to 208. Cheers.

A new member joined these forums in January this year: Jackie Trent - but she never came back. The birth date entered is correct.

But how many songs get away with so few lyrics as "Leave Me Alone" ? Apart from the three words in the title, the only other one is "oh".
