I am assisting with a documentary and have been asked to locate a particular music piece used in a newsreel clip. Specifically, the jazz piece used for the jazz festival part of this video.

In my research, I've found that newsreel music was often part of privately maintained libraries and only very recently has begun to be published, quite obscurely.

I know it's a long shot, but I'm wondering if any fans of newsreel music (I know there are some around) might be able to give some more focused guidance as to where to look. Samples that can be auditioned online would be preferable, but any assistance that can be provided would massively improve the search.

The 'Bosworth Music Library' put out an LP entitled 'Takes You Back' it had a picture of a Pathe News Cameraman on top of a van, as its cover. Goodness knows if it's still available but the number was BLP 154. You could also try Movietone News...head Librarian Barbara Heaven...they are very helpfull (and expensive).

Yes this was called 'library music' where musicians would just jam stuff on discs in London's tinpan alley districts and hope a TV company of film would pick it up for use .
....and of course it saved TV companies a lot of money getting it off the shelf.

A couple of companies that use to do this was KPM and Chappell (now owned by Warner)
    music .
There were musicians who just a made a living this way, little respected at the time, today they are recognized and appreciated by many but its all come a bit late for them as most are dead.

Some of these 'session' musicians include Syd Dale (jazzy), David Lindup(psychedelic) and Eric Coates (orchestral).

your piece sounds a bit like a Syd Dale

this one of his which has a similar sound I think

This is a typical David Lindup with everything and the kitchen sink thrown in.

this was used on Monty Python- The Bishop and a long forgotten show called The Informer
