Default Music in Films

I did a search on the forum but couldn't see an obvious thread about the best music in films, soundtrack etc?

There must be one out there surely?

If not, my top 5:

Last of the Mohicans - Daniel Day Lewis version.
The Bounty - Vangellis
The Full Monty - Great Soundtrack
The Long Good Friday
Zulu

Thats a good list, I love the Vangellis music for "The Bounty" and the theme from "The Long Good Friday" is brilliant and "Zulu" is possibly the best epic soundtrack ever! My 5 would be in no particular order,

Taxi Driver (Bernard Hermann)
Zulu (John Barry)
Planet of The Apes (1968 version) Jerry Goldsmith
Bullitt (Lalo Schifrin)
The Good The Bad The Ugly (Ennio Morricone)

one more, "The Magnificent Seven"

I always liked the main theme to "Once upon a time in America". It's a lovely piece of music and who could guess from hearing it that it came from such a violent film!

I agree with you about 'The Omen' of course and should have included it in my list (along with 100s of others)... I'd have listed pages of Jerry Goldsmith scores given half a chance - lol.

No Bernard Herrmann in your list? People who like Jerry Goldsmith's work, often favour Bernard Herrmann also. I hate to admit it, but I'm one of those predictable ones also ... they're my joint favourite composers of all time.

Nice list though.

Predator 2 because the theme is exactly the same as the first one but then...but then these bongo drums come in...awesome...

Oddly Herrmann has never been something I want to listen to for the sake of it. Great movie music but...

I'd rather add Ron Goodwin and Disney's George Bruns (for The Love Bug).

...and some final choices: trailer music! Clint Mansell's Requiem for a Dream soundtrack that Peter Jackson got amped up for the Two Towers trailer and a piece called Red Alert that plays over the trailers for Alien Resurrection (the one that starts with Twinkle twinkle little star) and Starship Troopers.

...and Michel Legrand's soundtrack for The Go-Between which is my Holy Grail of soundtracks still to find on CD.

...and...and...and...

Cheers Bats, I shall give 'em a look over.

I have several of those Michel Legrand conducts type compilations and they all have a disappointing muzak quality about them and lack the oomph of the OST - (likewise The New American Orchestra version of the Vangelis Blade Runner OST is similarly lacking).
