I'd have to say, Out of Africa (but that's just me being racist)

I havent got enough John Barry in my collection only have the Connery Bonds OHMS, Zulu and a couple of compilations. The latter include his work with the JB 7, with recordings from the 65 Special records, dated but still essential listening, Hit Or Miss is absolutely iresistable in my book.

Remember seeing the ad that which has the Girl With The Sunlight In Her Hair in the cinema in the sixties as well as telly.

Born Free is another classic from Barry.

I actually bought the Walkabout soundtrack even though there was only seven songs from the film and the rest were fillers

Yep, JB7 were on telly quite a lot in the old days.
John always looked very languid on trumpet whether he was playing it or just holding it.
Star man, of course, was Vic Flick - a man with a tremendous and unique guitar sound.
You can tell him a mile away!
The band also used a small electronic keyboard which may have been called a clavioline on their records, two of which I had on the Columbia label.
The A sides were Walk Don't Run - an inferior cover of the Ventures version, and Starfire, which featured said clavioline as lead instrument.
The respective B sides were I'm Moving On and A Matter of Who (movie theme), both IIRC, credited as JB7 plus 4 - that is the string section also featured on the Juke Box Jury theme, Hit and Miss.

Interesting you mention Vic, an underrated guitarist and very much "instrumental" in getting JB noticed for his start in the film business, via a number of hits that featured his distinctive playing.

Vic has recently written his autobiography which will be published later this year. It promises to be a fascinating read!

Has anything ever been done as a result of those petitions?
I've signed quite a few but I've yet to see any of them have any effect.

One might almost think they're just a sop to the public to make them think that the government was listening - if one was very cynical

You probably right,Steve. I think this government only has selective hearing.

It's not just this government - or even the government in just this country. It's a problem with nearly all politicians in nearly all countries

The main theme for The Lion in Winter is great!

"OHMSS" and "Living Daylights" are my favorite Bond scores.

As far as non-Bond Barry goes, "Somewhere In Time" is great as is "Hanover Street."

The wonderful Don Black was on Michael Ball's radio show yesterday. He will soon be celebrating his 70th birthday.

He told the story of how when Shirley Bassey asked how she should sing Diamonds are Forever John Barry told her to replace the word diamonds with penises.

It works

Touch it, stroke it and undress it,

I bought David Arnolds Shaken and Stirred album where he "re-imagined" several of the bond themes and songs.

Bloody awful!

Any hints of those great melodies and bombastic arrangements which make the Bond music great were sadly missing - except for OHMSS but at 9 mins long and with the Moonraker Space March stuck in the middle makes it a bit of a chore.

Favourite at the moment is Hans Zimmer's Glaidator (particularly Now We Are Free)

and as always, anything by Vangelis.
