Point is that the "reported facts" were mainly made up by the UA press office at the time.

According to an interview with Guy Hamilton it were not the producers who rejected the score but the studio bosses.

Timothy Gee named that studio boss: Noel Rogers head of UA Music in London.
I don't think Rogers is still alive to confirm

Ron Goodwin in person around 1996. I hadn't a tape recorder with me.
He told his story in great detail. He also said he never understood the reasons why Walton's score was rejected in the first place.

Welll ask Guy Hamilton. He stated the producers (Fisz & Saltzman) were not responsible.
I don't think anyone asked Saltzman directly some years later. That's the reason for "probable"

Can we end this now.

Well, that is fine by me. We have the published facts versus your memory of an unrecorded conversation which happened more than a decade ago - which is rather like Chinese Whispers.

I'm far from happy with the reliability of some of the things you wrote (please I do not mean this as an insult)... I would require cross reference verification to take what you say on board. What I mean is that anybody could spout anything and say they were told it by somebody - to take such as writ, is a path which leads to gullibility. I do not know you beyond this site... and I am not confident enough to take your word of an unrecorded conversation of at least 11 years ago which varies from the accepted facts of the case. I do not know how reliable your memory may be. Memory without records, is a very uncertain thing.

I think this might as well end now (as you request), because if you haven't anything substancial to back you up, we obviously have nowhere further to go.

I don't mean any insult in this. I'm just being frank.

All my best wishes to you, Guenther

BTW... I'll print out your posts and store them in my records and seek out anything which confirms what you say. If my researches trawl anything up... or if subsequently if I stumble over something that confirms any point, I will at least make mention of the alternative you mention.

Goodwin repeated that later that year early November in a BBC interview on Radio 4's "Comparing Notes".

Cross reference that.

I know that in some older interviews Goodwin phrased things a bit different, but you have to remember he had not retired from film scoring at that point.

Addendum:
There was a printed interview with Goodwin done by Christopher Ritchie in 89 or so for Soundtrack! magazine where he also states it.

In that interview he also says something along these lines... after he heard some of the Walton music it made the film company look like idiots!
