I agree with all the previous films mentioned. However one of my favourite musical sound tracks comes from Billy Wilder's 1970 film "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes" with a wonderful score from Miklos Rozsa using themes taken from his violin concerto of 1956.

As talking of Miklos Rosza, I just love "Moonfleet" and "Providence" sountracks, and (...in great disorder):

"Once Upon A Time In The West"/ Ennio Morricone
"Brazil"/Michael Kamen (for sung by Kate Bush)
"The Nightmare Before Christmas"/Danny Elfman
"Le Mépris"/Georges Delerue
"Le Vieux Fusil"/François de Roubaix
"In The Mouth Of Madness"/John Carpenter
.....and, ice on the cake, "Sunny" sung by Robert Mitchum

Has any one got a copy of "Inside Daisy Clover", preferably on CD?

With the honourable exception of 'Knocking on Heaven's door', Bob Dylan's soundtrack for Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid' was substandard fare. Originally John Stewart was scheduled for the role of 'Alias' the part that Dylan played. Stewart wrote a song about it called 'Durango', in which he lamented not getting a phone call from Sam Peckinpah! If Kris Kristofferson and John Stewart had co-written the soundtrack songs it would have been a different story, maybe not better, just different.

Excalibur is one of my all time favourite films partly because the Wagner soundtrack was just soooooo right.

Although it's a short piece which only plays at the end of 49th Parallel, I just love Ralph Vaughan Williams' theme and for some reason it almost makes me blubber when hearing it on the British Film Music Volume II CD.

The Odd Man Out suite by William Alwyn was the first CD I think I ever bought and great for repeating in ones head when it's snowing outside.

I must admit that I love the augmented track of Eric Coates in The Dambusters, ably added to by Leighton Lucas.

The Aces High piece by Ron Goodwin certainly seals it for The Battle of Britain film and what a loss if Walton's music had been used throughout the film. As you may know, you can play his music instead as an alternative whilst watching the film on the DVD and it just didn't work for me.

I absolutely agree re Barry Lyndon... I still have the original soundtrack LP brought out at the time of the film (that dates me!)

Has anyone mentioned Korngold's score for "The Adventures of Robin Hood"? Wonderful!
