Ah yes - I posted that YouTube clip when I discovered the cheesy version had been used on the DVD, just so everyone could hear the original track.

BTW, Alan Haven appears to have covered the track, but I don't think he composed it. The opening titles of the UK version (not the one on DVD) credit Joe Glenn, Larry Greene and Bob Sande with composing the title track 'IMAGE'. While Johnny Gregory composed the background score for the rest of the movie.

Drat!

My YouTube account has been suspended, even though it was for copyrighted material that oads of others are still posting.

I'll try and post the title sequence again, through another host, for you all to refer to.

IMAGE as used on the film credits (played by Alan Haven, with orch acc) is composed by 'Glenn, Sande and Greene'

The sheet music publisher is Shapiro Bernstein and Co' if you require the sheet music....

If my memory serves me correctly and I have the right film, I think the track you are referring to is a source music cue and it is indeed called 'Image' but the artist was Hank Levine. It was released on a single in the UK around '61. Side B was a slower more sultry version. Without looking at the film I can't remember which version was used.
Haven also played the organ on the "From Russia With Love" main title track film version which wasn't featured on the LP.
Here is a link to some more information:

I want to buy one of the IMAGES albums, but i can't believe that it'll be the original version if Havens wasn't credited in the film. The version of 'Image' is credited to Joe Glenn, Larry Greene and Bob Sande. Why would Havens not be mentioned?

Joe Glenn, Larry Greene and Bob Sande wrote IMAGES, Alan Haven played it. There is no reason why Alan Haven should have received a screen credit, especially if it was brought in 'library music'
(i.e. not composed especially for the movie)

Wow, I did not know that - I always imagined that the three of them were some sort of cool jazz trio.

I'll definitely chase up the netsound link you posted, and get me a copy of IMAGES!

Thank you for your patience with all of us!

New here, hello everyone.

'Image' was a tune I fell in love with back in the 60's when it was used a lot on Radio Caroline. They used it either as a 'talk-over' track or as one of the DJ's themes, possibly Don Allen or Bob Stewart.
I remember it as a cool, summery, breezy tune - you know the kind of thing - blue skies, sea breezes, perfect for the spirit of the time. I've got it on tape somewhere, but I can't find it so far...
I was most surprised when I later saw 'The Night Caller' and heard it being used as the film's theme! I don't think it suits it at all.
As for the film itself, I'm normally quite a fan of low-budget british science fiction, but it just seems so messy and poorly done.
Oops, I've probably upset about 10,000 people.

I hope this posting will clear things up once and for all.

Yes-The American (DVD) restored title contains only the very dire supper lounge type of cheesy vocalist SINGING 'The Night Caller' track, However, if you source a UK screening (VHS) off air copy; you will hear "Image" an instrumental organ track released in (1965) and (1967) as a (mono) 45 r.p.m. single on the fontana label. The LP also by Alan Haven called "IMAGES" has again the title track (1967 release) in (Mono) as well as a (Stereo) copy released. Look on Netsounds under Alan Haven! It is the 100% ORIGINAL score as heard in the UK print: spooky organ played over the opening tracking shot of the Thames in mid-sixties London-a very 'mod' track!
Anyone desperate for a copy msg me!
Having purchased a vinyl copy of the IMAGES album, I have to tell you that the track on there, called "IMAGE", isn't the same orchestration as the one used in the film. It's quite a different version. Right tune, but a different arrangement.

If anyone finds the movie version on a CD, please let us know.

Ah, I'm glad you said that, Pygar - I recall the film version being inferior (in my view) to the 'proper' version I remembered from the Radio caroline days. The version I have on tape is of the Caroline one, the Alan Haven album one...I think.
