Has anyone experience of downloading film music from the web.

I am trying to find The Duellists and Riddle of the Sands, both by Howard Blake. Have come across http://mp3-downloadhq.com/ but even before I get to look at their index I have to pay, although the yearly seems reasonable any info from fellow members on this site or any others would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Freddy

Freddy,
I have used Real Player's Rhapsody download and the only Howard Blake there is Rhapsody For A Summer's Night performed by Clive Lythgoe.

Many thanks for that Gibbie.
It appears that though it is very easy to find pop to download, rare film/classical music etc is either unavailable or i haven' found it yet.
Perhaps Britmovie fans could supply their music on to a website for others to download with royalties being paid to the necessary. We are all honourable chaps and chapesses here.

Will keep on looking, The Duellists music a wonderfully moody piece.

Someone asked me the question once whether I would sooner be blind or deaf and it totally threw me. Being here in the Isle of Man there is scenery which will totally take your breath away but for me it is only music which can bring the emotions to the fore, which can bring tears to the eyes. If film accompanies it (Mahler and Death In Venice) then even more so, but could film on its own? dialogue(subtitles) but no music.
Has anybody any examples of films where it is possible that only the direction and not the sound might have moved them.

I hope the topic is not too depressing but the question certainly makes one think.

regards
Freddy

Interesting question.

The famous car chase in Bullitt has no music. Lalo Shifrin's musical cue plays right up until the chase actually starts, but then stops. This was actually Steve McQueen;s idea, as he wanted the throb of his character's Mustang's engine to stand out.

Incidentally, in real life, it could never have kept up with the villains' Dodge Charger.

Alfred Hitchcock fired film composer Bernard Herrmann from Torn Curtain for two reasons. Firstly, because Hitchcock was being pressured by the Studio to include a pop-like song in the score and Herrman refused.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, Hitchcock had begun to feel resentful that Herrmann's music was being given greater and greater credit for the success of the films they had worked on. Being a director, this was a hard fact to accept.

The whole of One of Our Aircraft is Missing (1942) has no music soundtrack. Any music heard in it is only what "natural music" would have been heard by the characters, an organ played in the church, a record played etc.

Most unusual for an Oscar nominated films (nominated for best photographic effects and for best writing, original screenplay - not nominated for music)
