I must be missing something. I adore Ron Goodwin's work, but I've always considered 'Frenzy's score to be rather a mis-step for both Goodwin and Hitchcock. Goodwin's style is simply not Hitchcockian.
Hitchcock fired Mancini because he felt that score was too much like Bernard Herrmann. For me, there should have been more Herrmann-esque material in the score. Goodwin has a too positive touch to his music for a movie of that type. I don't think a soundtrack CD has ever been released for this score by Ron Goodwin. Knowing Goodwin, it would play better separate from the movie... undoubtedly its good music. It just isn't Hitchcockian. |
