New Bond Theme

Has anyone heard the rumour that the theme from the new Bond film is being written and recorded by a completely unknown band. They're called The Future. Jonothan Ross mentioned them on saturday. Has anybody heard them or know anything about them? I found their myspace page but there's no mention on that.

One of the best Bond scores - and the most unBond-like - was Burt Bacharach's Casino Royale.

The Main Title, as played by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, is worth the price of the CD alone.

you've got to be joking, right? Herb Alpert over John Barry / Shirley Bassey / Louis Armstrong? Come on.

The score to the new Casino Royale is composed by David Arnold, and here's me hoping it was going ot be Michael Giacchino. Oh well, can only dream!

As a comical score, Burt Bacahrach's Casino Royale is fantastic.

The film was - supposed to be - a spoof and so Bacharach wrote lighhearted music which fits the alleged comedy perfectly. So in that context, it IS one of the best Bond soundtracks. And it's good to listen to as well.

I'd say that the finest piece of Bond music is the Main Title to 1969's OHMSS.

Now you quantify it, it reads better. As a comical score it works perfectly.

What do you think of Giacchino's score to THE INCREDIBLES?

I'm surprised that they've never gone for Lalo Schifrin or the late, great Jerry Goldsmith

I must confess to not having heard Giacchino's score or seen the film.

But as for Goldsmith...well, the Bond films spawned a host of imitations, including two starring James Coburn as Derek Flint (In Like Flint and Our Man Flint). Goldsmith scored these and - although tongue in cheek - they're pretty good. B)

Please tell me that the Bond theme is not going to be given a sound kicking by some " Band of the Month" The forced marriage of John Barry to A-Ha should be a Grim warning to anyone ( he he - maybe they should have got Depeche Mode to sing " I just can't Kill enough" ;) )

I likedthe INCREDIBLES score. It sounded like unreleased Bond music and theres no higher compliment

No mention of Hans Zimmer ? He's probably more for the Bruckheimer sty;e movie , on reflection

Has anyone else heard Barry Adamson's "007, A Phantasy Bond Theme"? It starts out with the guitar solo and then segues into a reggae riff. It's all about a little boy growing up in Jamaica who thinks he's a secret agent. James Bond is Black!

And Adamson's version of the Man With The Golden Arm is fantastic.

Yes, I've got a copy of that - it's brilliant! Barry Adamson's material is well worth tracking down. The guy has obviously been desperate to compose film scores for years and it's a shame he hasn't had more opportunities.

Was bought David Arnold's Casino Royale soundtrack for Christmas.

Didn't think much of it at all....except for his reworking of the 007 theme.

He's falling into that same old-same old trap, I feel. He doesn't seem to have the inventiveness of John Barry in re-working and refreshing familiar themes. Whereas Arnold is same old, most of the time Barry was similar - but different...

A bit much, as well, not to get the main theme on the OST.

Arnold is certainly no Barry,but the 007 scores have improved since Serra's abysmal Goldeneye. The song was good,the soundtrack was terrible.

I just bought the Barry Adamson album off of Ebay. It was better than I thought it might be. Bond is Black is a great rip-off. I could have done with less dialogue but the hard boil 'story' track was superb.
