BFI montage
This has been a nagging mystery to me for over twenty years! When the Museum of the Moving Image opened in the 80s, it regularly screened a montage of hundreds of clips from around the world. For the score, part of the William Tell Overture was used (for the action clips, needless to say) as was Over the Rainbow. The score ended with a segment I have never been able to identify, a slow, sombre piece that sounds like something from an epic 60s or 70s movie. I can still hum it, although that's not especially useful here. The sequence ended with the "Rosebud" moment from Kane, Dorothy and friends skipping down the yellow brick road and Chaplin's tramp toddling off: the score had a resonance that suited. (In fact, it's the sort of music that would suit an In memoriam section at an awards ceremony).
Anyone have any idea of what I'm talking about? What was that theme?
