name='NappieB']Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the song - I have to confess that I never really liked the song when it was released in the early-to-mid 1970s. When I saw the movie during the movie's original release (1981 ?), I recognised the song immediately but doing so didn't increase my fondness for it. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the movie available to view or I'd put it in the VCR and fast-forward to that spot to jog my memory!

Are you absolutely sure? I thought I read somewhere that the song was specially written for the film. Having said that it does have a real sing-a-long early 70s feel to it.

Hi I am new to this site and I really hope someone will have the answer to this burning question.

In the film Educating Rita there is a song being played on the jukebox in the pub scene where Rita's mum is crying. The film credits say it was written by Stephen Gilbert and was just called Pub song. I can find no other information about it.

Strangely, a friend of mine was watching the film reach for the Sky about Dougals Bader and swears that there is a dance scene near the beginning and the music being played is the same - just slower and no lyrics!

Can anyone identify the song, is it available to buyetc? Any information would be much appreciated.

The song by Stephen Gilbert (Lewis's brother ) was specifically written for the film only and is not available at all.

Also worthy of note is the original end title music has been replaced (by Variations on Frank and Rita ) instead of the original piece, this is on the video releases but those on dvd and tv broadcasts are sadly the replaced versions.

The original music should have appeared just as the first end credits appear which should read screenplay by Willy Russell.

Amethyst is right.. the credits on the original movie call the song "pub song" and name Stephen Gilbert as writer and composer.

I first thought it was a song by the Bay City Rollers who were great jukebox material in the late 70s/early 80s.... but no, they never sang the song. The song seems to be a compilation of football/singalong/drinking songs which is probably what inspired

Stephen Gilbert in the first place.

    It's a good song, nonetheless!

I just watched this film today for the first time, and thought it was superb. Caine and Walters are both at the top of their game, shame they don't end up flying off to Australia together.

    Brilliant film.

With regards the soundtrack, I heard there were two different versions that appeared. The DVD version I saw had an 80's synthesised soundtrack.
