Has anything ever been done as a result of those petitions?

I've signed quite a few but I've yet to see any of them have any effect.

One might almost think they're just a sop to the public to make them think that the government was listening - if one was very cynical

You probably right,Steve. I think this government only has selective hearing.

It's not just this government - or even the government in just this country. It's a problem with nearly all politicians in nearly all countries

"OHMSS" and "Living Daylights" are my favorite Bond scores.

As far as non-Bond Barry goes, "Somewhere In Time" is great as is "Hanover Street."

The wonderful Don Black was on Michael Ball's radio show yesterday. He will soon be celebrating his 70th birthday.

He told the story of how when Shirley Bassey asked how she should sing Diamonds are Forever John Barry told her to replace the word diamonds with penises.

    It works

Hold one up and then caress it,

Touch it, stroke it and undress it,

I bought David Arnolds Shaken and Stirred album where he "re-imagined" several of the bond themes and songs.

    Bloody awful!

Any hints of those great melodies and bombastic arrangements which make the Bond music great were sadly missing - except for OHMSS but at 9 mins long and with the Moonraker Space March stuck in the middle makes it a bit of a chore.

Favourite at the moment is Hans Zimmer's Glaidator (particularly Now We Are Free)

and as always, anything by Vangelis.

I heard a bit of that interview in the car,but I left it when I got home, just as he was talking about Matt Monroe and my favourite of Big Matt's,Walk Away. Don Black is a great lyricist and raconteur.

Matt encouraged Don Black to write a song and he came up with Walk Away which was his first composition. Two exceptional talents.

As an aside does anyone else find Michael Ball's constant laughing an irritation. I do wish he'd stop.

He's great! "Somewhere In Time" and "Walkabout" are perhaps my favorites of his (beyond the Bond films).
