Bernard Herrmann was one of the greatest movie score composers of the 20th Century. He scored several of Hitchcock's greatest movies, including 'Psycho' and 'Vertigo'.



He is one of my two all time favourite composers



The theme to 'V' the original two-part TV movie, was composed as a homage to Herrmann's theme for 'North by Northwest'.

I thought North By Northwest was one of Herrman's best scores for Hitchcock, it has so much depth to it throughout the film.

My favourite Bernard Herrmann score has to be 'Vertigo', but 'North by Northwest' is brilliant indeed. Who'd have thought of theming a spy thriller with a Fandango!!!

Yeah, Bernard Herrmann, brilliant composer I would agree and one of my favourites too. His work for Hitchcock is great and lets not forget his music on "The Day The Earth Stood Still" and his collaboration with Scorsese on "Taxi Driver". In fact Scorsese liiked his music so much for the original "Cape Fear" that he used the same in his remake with De Niro.

And......Jerry Goldsmiths music for the original 1968 Planet of The Apes is one of my all time favourite film scores, just fantastic!

I think Herrman's score for Taxi Driver was the main reason the film had such impact. I love his work - brilliant and so atmospheric.

I think that the performance by De Niro and the others, and the lighting and camera work by Michael Chapman and the direction by Scorsese might have had a little bit to do with it as well. But the music was certainly an important part of it

Early Bond films and spaghettis particularly benefitted from some great music. My favourite spaghetti score is Morricone's for 'The Great Silence'.

Morricone must be one of the most prolific film composers ever, he has done so many films and I never cease to be amazed to be watching a film and see his name come up on the credits yet again! I liked his music for "Burn" , that really added to the film and I hadn't realised the music was his until I watched the film again recently.
