No Goldsmith.
No Herrmann.
No Goodwin.

Well the concert is called "Music from Great British Films"

But still it suffers mainly from the inclusion of too many composers and pieces.
Too close to an US style "pops" concert that sadly rule the film music concert world.

Some Herrmann concerts might be found here:

The Carry Ons and Harry Potter movies are great? (OK, maybe a few of the Carry Ons might just about qualify).

Ron Goodwin composed the score to many great British movies... 'The Battle of Britain', the 'Miss Marple' series starring Margaret Rutherford, 'Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines', '633 Squadron'...

Ron Goodwin is a good tunesmith. Whether or not he is a composer is debatable!

I think he was very gifted. Apart from the film scores listed in earlier posts, we should mention his music for Hitchcock's "Frenzy" and also "Where Eagles Dare", both first rate.

Of course he was a composer. Am I missing a joke or something? He may not have been to everybody's taste, but for heaven's sake lets not simply insult the man. I wish I was even one eighth the composer he was.

Absolutely agree. The opening scene of Where Eagles Dare was, and remains, one of my most thrilling cinematic musical experieces.

Debatable, but includes why Hollywood is excluded (okay HP is a bit of both)

Herrmann did some Brit films later in his career (Twisted Nerve, Endless Night, Night Digger, etc) Most weren't great either...

They should have included some Rozsa (his Centenary!) like Thief of Bagdad, Four Feathers or the Spy in Black.

Why not do the complete Battle of Britain or River Kwai suites?

Mainly a "pops" concert with many small pieces. Though the inclusions of the Red Shoes ballet and Anna Karenina are fab.

And yes the "Where Eagles Dare" intro is brilliant.

Rozsa's Violin Concerto, may have been a good choice as snatches of it were used throughout "The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes". It provided the film with that recurring almost haunting melody often heard. Rozsa along with Korngold wrote violin concertos containing snatches of music from their film writing.

Yes that would make for a better balanced programme, pity it's not really a British film (inspite of the cast). Maybe Ron Goodwin wrote a Piano Concerto or Debbie Wiseman a Symphony? Well, Eric Rogers did so anything's possible.

I totally agree, but would like to add 'The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes' to the list
