name='davidb']was that music specially commissioned for that show ,or was it already around ?

"Eye Level was produced originally for the De Wolfe Music Library and selected by Thames Television to be the theme tune for their Netherlands based detective series, Van der Valk. The work was based on a Dutch nursery rhyme which Jack Trombey wrote a top line for, and Simon Park arranged for his own orchestra and conducted."

Anorak point - The "Eye Level" tune was also used (a lot), in the early ads for Oranjeboom lager. The put words to it too, and such is the power of advertising I can recall everything to this day, including some Dutch painted wall tiles coming alive and singing along.

    "Oranjeboom, Oranjeboom - It's a lager not a tune " !

Park's Eye Level album is superb. As well as the tracks mentioned it also contains the luscious Grey Cantobile, Corn Exchange and the essential version of Up To Date (the Man About The House theme).

I think you'll find Jack Trombey and Simon Park are one and the same.

name='Santonix']You can download a lot of the songs off itunes (if you have an ipod).

For "Crown Court" you could get hold of a copy of Janacek's Sinfonieta, from which it is taken.

Crown Court used Sinfonieta as the opening music - the end music was a piece from the De-Wolfe Music Library called "Distant Hills" by Simon Park
