Quatermass TV serials soundtracks

There was some talk a couple of years ago about a release on CD of the BBC Quatermass serials (mostly library) music. Anyone know if this is being actively pursued?

Hi.

My advice to you is to contact the BBC website. They have a strict contact system. But you are warned, they can be very frustrating at times.

It wouldn't necessarily be the Beeb releasing this sort of thing (although I would prefer it if Mark Ayres were the producer, Beeb or no Beeb). Most of the tracks apart from Mars... and the extracts from Seiber's Faust (which exists in the archives and should have been released in its entirety well before now IMHO) are library tracks.



I seem to remember that some fans of the music were thinking about creating a company in order to do a release between them. Whatever the case, I would really like to hear this wonderful music.

Hi.

I stand corrected. However, years ago the Beeb did issue at least on cassette and possibly vinyl (and who knows CD) a collection of music under the heading BBC Space themes. But this was not exclusive to Quatermass.

The list was complied by Andrew Doherty. He has listed some tracks as unavailable, but some of these tracks can be downloaded at spotify for free, or for sale as MP3 downloads at Amazon UK and Play.com, particularly Inhumanity by Trevor Duncan, and his 'Challenge of Space' suite which is available as part of an album download on MP3 called 'Final Frontiers'.

Where is that list of his music used in QUATERMASS I cant find it?

If you mean Quatermass and the Pit (BBC Television version), some of the music appears on a Trevor Duncan CD titled Final Frontiers, which I bought from The Robert Farnon Society five years ago. It may still be available from them. The CD is on the Cavendish label and the catalogue number is CAV CD 171. It also contains Duncan's original soundtrack music from The Plane Makers (Citizens of the World); The original Pearl and Dean music (1953 to 1968) (Grand Vista) and his famous Visionaries Suite from the 1950's. The one Quatermass and the Pit track that is missing from the CD is Cathedral, used as the ending music in the serial.
