Re Maverick I was delighted to see that they are showing it from the very first,1957 episode, presumably made in B&W? And it's directed by Budd Boetticher.

I wonder if it's also the first "Gunsmoke" which was introduced by John Wayne who recommended James Arness for the part of Matt Dillon after being offered it himself.

Maverick has been fantastic on TCM - I missed it first time around, enjoyed the 80s version Bret Maverick, but have always wanted to see the original.

The first series has just finished today.

On Monday - oh joy!!! It is The High Chaparral! Hopefully from the pilot...

My only disappointment was that they didn't play the theme song "Who is the tall dark stranger there, Maverick is the name" etc at the end . They only played the music. Some of the "Gunsmoke" episodes were pretty tame. Hope you enjoy Manolito, Buck, Billy Blue etc next week. cassidy.
