    The Long Good Friday

22:00 on Monday 29th September on Channel 4.

Wonderful gritty drama, which made Bob Hoskins a star. He plays Harold, a ruthless London crimelord who tries to extend his underworld empire by joining forces with American business interests, but is foiled at every turn by mysterious rivals.

    Sailors Three

13:10 on Tuesday 30th September on the Channel 4.

A trio of British sailors get drunk on shore leave in South America and end up as prisoners on board a German battleship. Harmless Ealing comedy, with Tommy Trinder, Claude Hulbert and Michael Wilding. This was director Walter Forde's last film at Ealing.

    Against The Wind

13:00 on Wednesday 1st October on the Channel 4.

Tense World War Two drama about a group of elite British soldiers despatched to occupied France to fight the Nazis. Directed by Charles Crichton, and starring Simone Signoret, Jack Warner, Robert Beatty and Gordon Jackson.

    Snatch

22:00 on Wednesday 1st October on the Five.

Guy Ritchie's violent black comedy about a laid-back unlicensed boxing promoter and his hapless sidekick dragged by a local villain into a match-fixing racket which goes horribly wrong. Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones head the cast, while Brad Pitt is superb as an incoherent Irish gypsy. Unmissable.

    Henry V

13:20 on Friday 3rd October on the BBC 2.

Laurence Olivier's fine interpretation of Shakespeare's classic drama about the young English king who attempts to win the French crown on the battlefield of Agincourt. Robert Newton, Leslie Banks and Esmond Knight co-star.

    Theatre of Death

03:10 on Monday 6th October on Channel 4.

Chiller set in Paris where citizens are terrified by a series of horrible murders when the bodies of girls, each bearing the signs of vampiric attack, are discovered by the police. A surgeon who is helping the police investigate the crimes grows increasingly suspicious of the strange Theatre of Death.

Sat Oct 3rd 22:55 Channel 4 Heroes of Comedy

    Sid James.

A profile of comic actor Sid James, best known for his place in the 'Carry On' films. His distinctive 'lived-in' face and nicotine-ravaged voice still ensure him a place in the nation's affections 25 years after his death. With contributions from Bruce Forsyth, Liz Fraser, Diana Coupland, Barry Norman and Moira Lister.
