I thought of this this morning while watching the American TCM and an old favourite film which I enjoy in both its manifestations.

If I were to post this:

I would expect anyone recognizing it to post an image of the later or earlier version and give me both titles, if they happened to be different.

The answer in this case being a later version.

One would have to post fairly obvious pictures, or maybe not, and there may not be enough remakes to sustain a thread for very long.

    Is it worth a try?

Both of which are fun and both good—Robson tends to overact, perhaps her stage persona overwhelming the more intimate film environment.

Don't recognize this still, could we have another?

I'd be very surprised if many people here had seen this but that won't stop Strong Views being held

Nice idea for a thread vaggmk1938

I hope Mr Sloane won't mind if I pop this one in here while he's otherwise engaged.

I've just come back to this thread and realised how rude it was of me to jump in and take Mr Sloane's turn like that.

Could you please disregard my post, and I hope Mr Sloane will accept my apologies and continue with his turn. Apologies to vaggmk1938 also for messing up the thread.

No need to apologise .... queue jumping is OK if there has been a decent gap between the two posts and I think 3 days is a decent enough gap.

ps - love the avatar .... saw him on stage a few years ago .... excellent he was too!

Bats is quite right, no apologies needed. Thanks for the compliment

Perhaps another image from the same film—I presume we are looking for an earlier version?

    Thank you very much vaggmk1938.

Here's a closer look at our pianist:

It's a later French remake we're looking for

It is The Beat That My Heart Skipped, and the original being James Toback's Fingers - both wonderful films.

Is it a remake of Trouble in Store?
The scene where Norman appears to be in the Rolls Royce of Mr Freeman (Jerry Desmond) but he's really on his bike next to it

Nope - more exotic than that and the original a bit later

One of the writers is a post-war comedy like Wisdom

    Another image might help

My previous statement should have read - One of the writers is a post-war British comedy giant like Wisdom
