I had seen it (nearly 20 years ago) and though not entirely sure, I did remember the OTT makeup which amongst other things made that version look silly. I doubt MC ever actually got under the makeup. It's still Freddie March as far as I'm concerned. David Hemmings version wasn't bad either.

I thought the whole production rather poor, especially after the enjoyable Jack the Ripper series from the same team. I agree that it is unlikely that MC did get under that lot. The Hyde effects and make up used in the Richard Mansfield scenes in JTR were much more effective. I haven't seen the Hemmings version (wasn't that originally shot as a musical, but the songs were so awful so they cut them out?) but Fredric March is the best Jekyll/Hyde for me too.

Bats,

Bats,
The musical is one starring Kirk Douglas which I have never seen - great cast - Michael Redgrave, Stanley Holloway, Donald Pleasance etc and I think they left the music in. Never seems to get shown on TV in this country. The Hemmings one was an early eighties BBC and I found quiet effective.
