It is Finlay Currie Windthrop, but it's not The Brothers bats.

And quite a few of us have visited that pier where she's standing with Finlay. Although that's getting a bit old and decrepid now. BTW she has a very famous sister. Extra points if you know who that is. Steve |

Batman must be right because that appears to be a copy of the film in the gentleman's hands. I assume the lady is Margot Fitzsimons, sister of Maureen O'Hara.

She's from a family of actors, it's not just her and Maureen. But Margot only ever did one other film, The Captive Heart because she was then swept off her feet by a handsome US Marine and they then spent the rest of their time travelling around the various US bases around the world. BTW remember that there's only one 'm' in her surname, don't call her "Fitzsimmons" ![]() We took Margot & Harry to see a screening of IKWIG at the NFT. After the applause had died down she stood up, to more applause, and shared a few memories of the making of IKWIG - all happy ones. Margot remembers a lot of the filming quite clearly. I asked her about the Bedded/Wedded dub (it was Bedded in the version they screened) and she agreed that Bedded was the better and more correct version but she'd been asked to dub it with the Wedded version for any countries with more refined sensibilities. As that was available, that was the version that was often shown on TV. She had fond memories of the scene waiting for the boat to return where she's standing on the pier having buckets of water thrown at her - at least it wasn't as much as Wendy got in the scenes in the boat. She'd forgotten that Roger never went to Mull until I reminded her. She did all the scenes with him in the studio of course. But she didn't know the name of the person who very skilfully doubled for Roger on Mull. She told us about her first scene, where she's driving the cattle up the hill and directs Joan to "The House" (what are all the other buildings where people live? Just hovels?) and tells Joan to look for "The wee gate, up the brae". They did have quite a lot of retakes of that (unusual for The Archers) and Margot says she got to know the cattle quite well ![]() Steve |
