The main criticism that was made of it is that it looked like a TV production rather than a film. The paly could still be seen on the rep circuit years after and the great Arthur Lowe met his death during the interval in a revival. The play has dated somewhat but the acting saves it for me.

I agree. The acting is excellent in that film, I think it is one of Margaret Leighton's best performances. It's a shame Ralph only directed the one film, because I think he showed real potential behind the camera. I would have liked to have been able to see the actual TV version from 1957 with Peter Cushing.

Still stumped on the NTF.

Looking a Pete's CV he was the leading TV actor then....however on to a clue......

A largely forgotten curio which has major talent in all its departments. Penned by an underrated scribe who should be better known.

Certainly stage-bound but it was an exercise by Korda in making a 'quickie'; hence its sub 3-week shoot.

It has a companion piece in The Holly and the Ivy similar cast and quick shoot of a now rather quaint English play.

With all this Ralph Richardson talk going on I'm going to hazard a guess at On The Night Of The Fire.

Good try, but no Ralphie was not involved. If he had ben he would have been the only cast member with a K. Two of the cast were subsequently elevated though

Nope Ralph is in that one. He would have been knighted if he had been in this film whereas he was just a simple Mister in 1933
