So we are talking about a postwar male/female star who declined in the 60s ?

Was the star British ?

Nope. We are in pseudo-literary territory here. The director was very prolific in the 60s and 70s and turned out some good films and quite a few duds as well.

Correct!

Marlon Brando's last film prior to his comeback in The Godfather. The director was Michael Winner. The dead girl in the mud is Stephanie Beacham.

Brando is pretty good in this .... he knew that Paramount had their eye on him after Coppolla said he wanted him for GF, so was focussed and on his best behaviour.

I think it's a pretty decent film.

It's a pre-Bronson Winner. I did read that Frank Sinatra no less turned down Death Wish and that Jack Lemmon was in the running at one point. That would have been interesting casting and closer to the book.

That's the one. It's Britain's Greatest Living Actor (TM), Simon Russell Beale.

He certainly scaled the theatrical heights opposite Adrian Scarborough as Rosie and Guildie

I like him too - it's great that he's getting decent tv parts now like in Gavin and Stacey.

As Quiggin? Yes, he and SRB were both good in that. Though Gielgud's Great Uncle Bulgaria was a bit distracting.

I thought it was a formidable mass of Brit talent at somewhere near its peak on the same level as Anglo-Saxon Attitudes
