I try to be a completist for certain things/people - and I'm certainly an obsessive.

Currently on my "must have/see everything (well as much as is possible)

    Mira Furlan

Hannah Gordon (currently pondering whether I buy that DVD of "Tire a Part" that's going to run me $75Cdn)

    Greer Garson

    Zdravka Krstulovic (ex-Yugoslavian actress)

    Djurdjica Barlovic (ex-Yugoslavian pop singer)

name='hhhhancock']I collect British World War II films made between 1939 and 1969, in those terms I could be considered a completist (still need about 20) but I realise I'm copping out by not collecting all films from 1969 on.

I've tried to be completist with other collections and usually given up mainly because of the cost involved. I had a large collection of Giles Annuals but found the early ones were just beyond my resources. Same with Gideon books.

The only collection I can say is complete would be the original Observer books, after about 5 years I now have 'em all.

I collect all war films depicting war, combat and military subjects from WWI onwards. I am currently at 951 titles on DVD and have about 20 left on my wants list. There are a lot more films I could add to the wants list, but at the moment I am concentrating on making the list shorter not longer.

I also religiously buy the Doctor Who range on DVD (even though I bought them all on VHS), although there is the odd boxset that I didn't buy because I had already bought the single releases of the stories contained therein.

But having a mortgage and 3 kids means I can't be too extravagant and I have to draw the line somewhere.

Much like the fact I don't buy every singe Mini model (as in Corgi or Dinky etc), or I didn't buy The Beatles back catalogue again when they released them digitally remastered.

Although if I was more wealthy then chances are I would.

I too am a Doctor Who fan but by no means a completist, though I'll make sure I get everything from the Jon Pertwee era as and when it becomes available.

My true anorak credentials lie with The Beatles...I have, over the years, amassed all the official releases (vinyl 45s / EPs/ LPs and all of the original CD catalogue plus the re-mastered/reissued mono & stereo CD box sets) - I still maintain they, uniquely, never released a bad record in their entire canon of work. I also have every solo and post-Beatles release (on CD and, where available, vinyl) by John, Paul, George and Ringo (and there I will concede the quality does occasionally dip) so yes, all of the Plastic Ono Band / Wings / Travelling Wilburys / All-Starr Band etc output. And that's before I mention my extensive collection of foreign pressings and bootlegs....

All in all it's cost me a bloody fortune down the decades, and Mrs Tonch rolls her eyes with despair at times (although she does tolerate the Beatles Toby Jugs adorning our living room window sill, and the fab four fridge magnets!)

Heavens yes. Hammer mainly, and Hammer-era horror

    <- icon a bit of a giveaway

Also old kung fu movies, a fruitless task as there must be thousands of the damn things.

I realise going through my collection that I am slightly obsessive about some things!

    - Musicals
    - Wheeler and Woolsey (1930s comedy duo)
    - Adaptations of plays and/or classic literature
    - Dad's Army / Steptoe and Son / Hancock / Carry Ons
    - Sherlock Holmes
    - Pre-Code Hollywood
    - Greta Garbo / Bette Davis / Joan Crawford / Judy Garland / Jean Harlow / Dana Andrews / Louis Hayward / Gene Kelly / Fred Astaire
    - Swashbucklers of any type
    - oh, and my pet project of course, trying to locate that elusive stuff of Gary B's ...

but still with the perspective I had in my previous post on this thread - don't collect EVERYTHING or there is no fun anymore in tracking things down!

I was just wondering what the opposite of a completist is? I think I might be one.

You can probably get some therapy for that GRAEME.....
For obsessives like me its hard to understand why you would not want to collect EVERYTHING by a certain person etc.....
