THE WINSLOW BOY (UK/US, 1999) dir. David Mamet

Neil North who played title role in 1948 version is First Lord of the Admiralty.

Are there other examples of actors appearing in different adaptations of the same play or novel?

There was surprise that the 1999 remake did not receive any Academy Award nominations.

Were any locations used for the naval college? IMDb says only London.

Boris Karloff originated the role of Johnathan Brewster in the original Broadway stage version, but not in the Frank Capra movie. But he was Brewster in the 1946 radio adaptation and the 1949, 1955, and 1962 television versions. Josephine Hull was in the movie and 1949 television version as Abby Brewster. Helen Hayes was Abby Brewster in the 1955 and 1968 television versions.

THE LITTLE FUGITIVE (US, 1953) 80 mins - available on DVD (Region 1)

Morris Engel, one of the film's three directors, was nominated for an Oscar and appeared briefly in the 2006 remake directed by Joanna Lipper.

Seven-year-old Joey is tricked into believing he killed his older brother and flees to Coney Island.

The 1953 film invites comparison with another classic, THE RED BALLOON (France, 1956), because the central part of the story is told without dialogue (but with a distinctive harmonica solo).

Joey is played by Richie Andrusco, a non-professional actor whose only other screen appearance, according to IMDb, is an episode of I SPY (TV, 1955).

Peter Lorre did film and tv versions of Arsenic and Old Lace too.

Stretching the perameters of the thread a bit, Eric Sykes recyled some of the cast members when he remade some of his 60s silent comedies in the 80s

Not quite the same thing but ...

Richard Greene was 'Robin Hood' in the TV series and also played him in Hammer's film version.

Ralph Byrd played 'Dick Tracy' in cliffhanger serials, B-movies and a TV series.

Robert Powell played 'Hannay' in the 70s film of The 39 Steps and in the 80s TV series Hannay.

    Also ...

Many 'classic' Hollywood films were adapted for radio using the original casts.

Michael Caine turned up in both versions of Get Carter.

But then that drifts into that Hollywood thing of trying to give a ghastly remake respectability by having the original star make a cameo appearance. Like Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum turning up in Cape Fear.
