I tried to watch `ghost story` for the second time tonight but just couldn`t get into it yet again which was disapointing, quite a confusing film IMO, When the club at the beginning began with thier ghost stories I did think it was promising, but not to be, for me anyway.

What are others opinions on this film?

A favourite of mine too but one I still haven't transferred from VHS. I should really buy the DVD.

I'm surprised you couldn't get into it FG, I was gripped from the start.

No, definately can`t get into it. Mr FG said the same.

It`s too bitty for me I think. I`m sure I know the end because A LOT of years ago when I first watched it I wound (VHS no DVDs then) to the end because I just didn`t like the middle. Like I say, thought the beginning was good but then went down hill for me.

I too, Gog, an old standby for me to watch. I love the way Fred Astaire smoothly danced his way from those glorious Astaire-Rogers' films to more serious roles as he aged, e.g. On the Beach and Ghost Story.

I found 'ghost story' hard to get into, i don't think the americans are as good as europeans at the 'ghost story' in literature,(edgar allan poe excepted)authors such as bierce and lovecraft are more 'horror' writers and i think america is more comfortable with 'horror' in film also.

The four old gents are great fun to see and Alice Krige was excellent too but I never felt it entirely worked. Perhaps I shouldn't have read the book beforehand...

I agree with faginsgirl, can't get into this film at all. Sat through the whole thing & it was a real chore to do so. The basic plot is sound but it just goes on & on & on! It would have worked as an episode of The Twilight Zone but at nearly 2 hours of very little happening, well it's hard to care about anything or feel any sense of tension.

Afraid that I couldn't get into Ghost Story either.

There's only one cinema supernatural film that I really love and that's The Changeling:

Maybe fred astaire should have introduced a tap routine as a sort of 'intermission'?

Well for me the whole film was very surreal so if he had I wouldn`t have realised it was the intermission anyway.

I never saw it, bit it was pretty much panned by critics when it came out.

I was reading this interview with Leslie Bricusse, half the songwriting team for Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and he said Fred Astaire's agent was lobbying for Astaire to get the Wonka role, but the producers weren't interested.

That`s a shame. He would have made such a good Wonka .
