I've seen various other ships, ancient and modern, moored alongside the Belfast over the years. But there weren't any there when I strolled past last week. At least it was more interesting than the visit to Slough the day before Steve

Ah, the one I saw ( whilst sitting on the RV1) has obviously gone elsewhere, though it's it's given me something to be intrigued about, lol, I know we discussed the merits of Slough on another thread, I had the impression you went there by train, that's why I mentioned the rail station, but your subsequent post told me otherwise.

Other than it's proximity to my beloved Windsor I guess I'm biased in favour of the town of Slough because it was the home of Mars bars and my beloved Thunderbirds!., though the Harvester restaurant as you enter the town from the east is very pleasant, plus the town's numerous industries give employment, so I'll give the place the thumbs up.

I've driven there in the past but last week I went by train. I have to go there every month or so 'cause we've got a couple of major clients there

There's a night time "driving over tower bridge" shot in Split Second

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105459/

Which, I'm slightly alarmed to say, is one of my favourite films. Mainly for it's (probably unintentional) comedy value.

Interesting opening sequence showing a solitary Canary Wharf skyscraper.

Tower Bridge in 'The Sandwich Man' (1966)

A good view of the Bridge at Billingsgate Fish Market*, where carpet seller Roger Delgado tries to tempt Sydney Tafler:

    "How much?"

A closer view of the stars and the landmark:

"As we are allies, £50. I'm giving it away!"

*How about this for a great find? A Pathe newsreel that begins with "various shots of market activity with Tower Bridge in the distance"!

    Billingsgate Fish Market 1969

That is a great find cornershop, a Pathe newsreel which i had never seen before, i typed in Tower Bridge at the British Pathe site and there are a lot more newsreels featuring Tower Bridge.

Thanks, billy. I'm sure you'll enjoy watching The Sandwich Man for the locations as well as the many great stars. It's currently £6.57 at Amazon and £8.16 at Network, where I got it for a bargain £4.90 in their recent Sale.

The Pathe newsreels are all fascinating to watch but they really need a soundtrack, whether it's a voiceover, an atmospheric reacreation or maybe a few songs. The hits of Pickettywitch and White Plains would be a cool way of filling the 20 minute silence that accompanies the film I've just seen!:

Tower Bridge appears after about seven minutes. The abscence of sound makes it seem an even longer wait before the film comes to life again with traffic passing through. I preferred the shots of the Embankment, actually, and those colourful images of flowers and pigeons. The Sphinx featured in a scene from an ITC show but I can't think which one. Man in a Suitcase? The Avengerland site will remind me.

Thank you for the link to those newsreels

Tower Bridge in 'Girl in the Headlines' (1963)

One more to add to the collection, billy, which I spotted during last night's viewing of the British crime thriller, on YouTube:
    [
Detectives Ian Hendry and Ronald Fraser are in pursuit of villains in this scene.

Tower Bridge in the 'Armchair Cinema' production Regan (1974) [Pilot for The Sweeney]

From Paul Lewis's review at DVD Compare:

Predominantly shot in and around Butler’s Wharf, Tower Bridge and Richmond, Regan opens in a pub where Detective Sergeant Alan Cowley (Del Baker) is undercover, investigating the Mallory ‘firm’. Cowley inadvisedly follows a group of criminals out of the pub and into a secluded location, where he is beaten and eventually pushed out of a high window. Regan’s titles play over a shot of Cowley’s body by the Thames, reminiscent of the final shot of Get Carter:

I also thought of Get Carter when I watched this again recently. Surely an homage? Likewise, Sgt. Carter.

Cowley's body is still lying there as dawn breaks. But viewers are about to discover he is actually still alive:

We see him slowly rise and then stagger towards the nearest street, where he's soon knocked down by a car. Unlucky
