A pretty scary moment for me in any film is when I see the words Starring Ewan MacGregor.

I loved "Duel."

Recently I was watching the original Amityville Horror, and the scene near the end of the film where James Brolin is coming from the boathouse towards the house and sees a demon in the third-story window send a major shiver down my back.

The final scene of Dementia 13 where the doll gets whacked with an axe (plus the beheading scene in the movie)

The final scene in "The Car" where James Brolin sees the image of Satan in the fiery flames (not bad for a B movie)

The Exorcist was very scary in its time. Linda Blair was an excellent actress in it.

The Funhouse, where the character Gunther takes off the Frankenstein mask and exposes his real, deformed face.

The original Nosferatu, I used to be able to watch it but not anymore

The original Diabolique scared me, especially the ending.

Speaking of French films, The Wages of Fear, not really a scary film but I like the ending.

Jack the Giant Killer was directed by Nathan Juran. The animations in that film are wonderful, considering it was made before computerized animation existed.

I have it on DVD - the beheading scene was scary.

Do I detect a liking for beheading scenes TF?

I love that guillotine, Batman.

I also have Blackbeard the Pirate where Torin beheads a Blackbeard imposter. Very cool film. With Robert Newton as Blackbeard. 1952

I think that scene from Jaws gave me the biggest scare - mind you I was a lot younger then and hadn't spent years watching horror movies.

Horror films rarely scare me but from childhood I still remember the shock in Great Expectations when Pip first meets Magwich on the marshes and the underwater shot of Shelly Winters in Night of the Humter ( by the way 2 great films by 2 great Britons).
Taking about Lean the death of Nancy in Oliver Twist purely conveyed from the frenzied attempts of Bullseye to escape the room , the most violent thing I have ever viewed, please take note Tarantino (who i do admire Pulp fiction is great story telling).

Darkness Falls - when the boy pulls the covers down and the witch sees him.

House on Haunted Hill - the old woman in the basement. A general eerieness and the music.
