The wizard of Oz please who's popping pills here, what did you find scarey in that film.

On half of those films they do not even bother picking out scenes. Which scene in Duel is terrifying? Terrific suspenseful film, but it is hardly candidate for 'terrifying movie scene'. They do not even bother to come up with one for their top pick. I suppose they are mostly old films because how many 15 year old journalists does The Times employ? Lazy list - they do not even fulfil their own criteria.

If you go to the site each title takes you to a Youtube clip. This is the one for Duel (agree that it's hardly terrifying).

A young girl being threatened by an old lady, then the girl in caught up in a tornado. Whisked to another place she kills one woman, has a close encounter with a lion and a robot. She's involved in drug use (in the field of poppies) and her life is threatened a few times.

And all that's without mentioning the flying monkeys and the Wicked Witch of the West.

No, nothing at all scary

Good pick, Bats, although there are a number of scenes in that film, all aided by the escellent, repetitive, music.

I really don't see how you can have anything other than Psycho as your top choice if your poll is going to be credible. What is horrifying about that shower scene is not its attack as such but knowing that she is going to be found naked. That scene removes every shred of dignity from its victim - as films like Saw and Hostel show us death scenes are becoming more and more inventive but not many come close to matching Psycho's power.

The Munchkins ... or at least the song 'The Lollipop Guild' - I shudder to think of it - lol

I didn't realise that being scared was only for adults.

The Wizard Of Oz is very scary to some children (and some adults) .... I personally find some of the images very creepy.

Some of the 'action' scenes in Duel are really terrifying within the context of the film, Weaver's character in his small car is just as vulnerable and 'naked' against that big truck as Leigh is in the shower against Norman.

I was disappointed that Halloween didn't make an appearance. That film could have a top 13 of it's own .... IMHO the equal scariest film ever along with Dead of Night.

I recall 'Doctor Blood's Coffin' on late-night TV in the mid-70's, and as a young Teen left me absolutely terrified afterwards (couldn't go to Bed!) when a Corpse is bought back to life and starts fighting in a Cornish Tin Mine!

I've seen the Movie since and it's fairly tame.......but not for Kids!

Another that 'disturbed' me when I first saw it is 'Les Yeux sans Visage' (Eyes withouty a face) a strange French Movie from the late 50's, the fact there's no 'Monsters' or other unreal things, just real people makes it even scarier!

The main star of the Movie, Edith Scob is still acting according to IMDB, just wish I knew what she looked like today!
