I don't remember a similar outrage when British actors were cast as Poirot![]()
The problem isn't an American actress playing Marple. It is she is playing her as an American and is way too sexy to be credible as Miss Marple as Agatha Christie conceived her. And since the movie is set in today's world shouldn't she be called Ms. Marple?
I think it misses the point of 'Marple' in that many mistake her for a dotty old dear but she's sharp as a tack and her unassuming persona causes people to drop their guard and reveal what they wouldn't to others.
Holmes was different as he embraced forensic science and went on logic.
I know there is a time difference but will someone tell the Yanks that April Fools Day is TOMORROW!
The most bizarre casting since the time they cast a 24 year old attractive Irish American actress as Mrs. Columbo.
Helena Bonham Carter would have been good casting as a younger Miss Marple, but I don't think Tim Burton would have wanted to direct it unless Miss Marple was a witch or something.
No. No no no no no. Young Miss Marple is WRONG. Giving her a love life, in the early ITV adaptations, was amongst the reasons I didn't watch anymore of them. It was difficult to hear the dialogue, what with the sound of Dame Agatha spinning in her grave.
Agatha's grandson has a leading role in running her estate and managing her publishing rights, and is clearly enjoying cashing in on granny's good name.![]()
i don't like/see the point of the idea but if i had to choose a british actress to play a young 'miss marple' then i'd pick lisa dillon.
