Elstree Hill DVDs are usually very cheap, but best avoided at all times, Andy.
We've just thoroughly enjoyed RANSOM!, a marvellous Glenn Ford film about a kidnapped child. Terrific stuff, and just the ticket for a wet Sunday afternoon.
How much better it would have been if it wasn't such a nasty transfer. I'm sure I've seen better video from mobile phones!
It was low-resolution, causing severe 'jagging' and very noticeable pixels. There was also lots of jerkiness, missing frames etc caused by 3:2 pulldown or standards conversion.
Finally, the lip-sync was way out through most of the film.
It was an utter disgrace. The film was bought as a double disc set made by Elstree Hill Entertainment in their Silver Screen Collection. Although only cheap at the time we bought it from Amazon, I believe the full price was not especially low. Avoid.![]()

I believe this was remade in later years with Mel Gibson with very similar dialogue
I tend to avoid Elstree Hill DVDs, but they are the only people who have the WW2 film Hell in Normandy in their catalogue. I ordered a copy the other day ... I hope it's better quality than Ransom.
I have the Chaney Hunchback on Elsteee Hill because it was the only edition at the time; like the Mill Creek sets in the US the quality is rubbish. I also have Father's Little Dividend I think.
The other questionable DVD publisher is Alpha; some are fine, but some - a couple of old Wheeler and Woolsey titles come to mind - are just appalling.
