Tales From The Darkside? A world as real as our own - only not as brightly lit...
this was one of those usually dreadful twighlight zone type shows revived for the 80s with patrick mc nee hosting .
anyway it was one of the better ones where some sort of practical joker who liked to scare people on halloween suddenly had the tables turned on him when the real ghosts and witches etc descended on him .
the special effects seemed really good for its time![]()

Now this is weird! I know Patrick hosted Tales from the Darkside on late night TV in the 80s - and you can find videos with him credited as "introduced by" - but no mention of him on the TFTDS website or on IMDB or on more recent DVD releases!
I think poor old Patrick has been edited out of Darkside history!
I'm afraid I only recollect late night drunken sessions shouting in derision at the screen in the Tyne Tees area! Patrick was definitely on it - but it may have been a regional pick up of the made-for-video version of the series.
Certainly, the IMDB reviews don't mention Patrick either - which would suggest it didn't go out everywhere with him "hosting".
Any experts on US 80s TV Fantasy?
I remember he always had a glass of some alcoholic libation by his side which was always empty by the end of the programme![]()
so patrick was only added at a later date was he ?
it doesnt surprise me as these were usually cheap and cheerful half hour tales of rubbish mostly
but that one i seen was genuinely good !
but i suppose out of about 500 of them that were dross the law of averages must kick in eventually and a good one turns up![]()
Well, I'm no "expert" but I watched the show during the 80s and Patrick wasn't the host. That must have been added for the UK market. There was no host for "Tales," just the narrator over the opening credits ("Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality...".).
"Tales" wasn't a fantastic show, but the pilot ep that Capn' Haddock mentioned was good, as was another Halloween episode "Halloween Candy," the Jean Marsh episode with the ringing telephone, and a handful of others.
Last night I was watching a Rawhide episode on DVD called Incident Of The 13th Man, and was startled to see Patrick Macnee's name on the end credits. I watched again, and, sure enough, there he was in a blink-and-you'll-miss-him role as one of the baddie's henchmen !
