Also, some of the English characters were portrayed by Scots. Although I used to think Errol Flynn was Irish, I heard that he was Tasmanian. I am sure someone will correct me. But they are all officially British.

    Alan French.
Yes Alan, Errol Flynn was Australian, born in Tasmania.

You might catch it on TV under it's "Damn the Defiant" title, it's on quite often. Moving on from there, isn't it funny how Peter Cushing was always cast as the villain in some early swashbucklers and none nastier than "Sir Palamides in "The Black Knight" 1954 with Alan Ladd.

I,to my surprise have never seen HMS Defiant ,obviously not as good as the Australian but the cast alone should guarantee a good swash of a buckle,is it the best of the British swashbucklers?

Surprised that no one so far seems to have mentioned that classic of the genre The Spanish Sword starring man of action Ronald Howard.

I always confuse him with his Uncle Arthur which caused me to double take on this post. The thought of him thrusting and parrying with his trusty Whack-o cane

Another one of my favourite Brit Swashbuckler films is Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. (1951) which starred one of my all time favourite Actors Gregory Peck as Captain Horatio Hornblower, below you can see the trailer for the film and also the early part of the film, the entire film can be seen on YouTube in 11 parts.
