    The Painted veil.
I know where I am going
    Dark Blue World.
    The Captive Heart.
    Canterbury Tale.
    Notes on a Scandal.
    Four in the Morning.
I think I could go on and on and on...the list of pleasing film titles is endless, as are the films we all like.

"Dark Blue World" is a lovely title. Cornershop also mentioned "Four in the Morning", but I can only think of Faron Young (the singer and the Prefab Sprout song) when I hear that. I have to disagree with Cornershop about "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds", which I think is quite pleasing, so that goes to show something.
Last night I nearly watched In Which We Serve which is a title full of pomp and circumstance and very poetic.

Down to the Sea in Ships
Pretty Maids All in a Row
The Sea Shall Not Have Them

    All have a certain something.

The most prolix-y writer of film titles must be Lina Wertmuller whose efforts (a couple of which I like) include:

Crystal or Ash, Fire or Wind, as Long as It's Love
Summer Night, with Greek Profile, Almond Eyes and Scent of Basil
A Joke of Destiny, Lying in Wait Around the Corner Like a Bandit
The End of the World in Our Usual Bed in a Night Full of Rain
Swept Away... by an Unusual Destiny in the Blue Sea of August

The most unpleasant title (if not film) must be Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?

    Four in the Morning.
I think of crying babies, and heavy eyed housewives. Judi Dench being the harassed wife with the baby that never stopped crying.

Very nice title - I wonder of the German original sounds as pleasing to German ears?

It reminds me of the title of a Beach Boys instrumental, which in turn took its name from a holiday article in a magazine; "The Nearest Faraway Place"

That should have been The Farmer's Wife. There was a film called The Farmer Takes a Wife, however, with Janet Gaynor and Henry Fonda (later remade with Betty Grable and Dale Robertson).

I like the second half of the title, Rowdon! A good film as I remember it, the follow-up to Rachel, Rachel (another favourite of mine). Joanne Woodward was again directed by husband Paul Newman but this was much darker, with a very sad ending involving their real-life daughter's pet rabbit. Do you remember that moment when Joanne thinks a neighbour has been dead by her window for two days before seeing the lady move?!

    More pleasing Silent titles

Again inspired by 'Silent Stars' subjects.

Leatrice Joy - The Water Lily and The Wedding Song. Intriguing titles include Bunty Pulls the Strings and The Window Dresser's Dream.

The always-pleasing Polly Put the Kettle On was one of Lina Basquette's films. Also: A Romany Rose and, indeed, Pleasure.

Chili Bouchier - The Blue Danube, Mayfair Melody and Change for a Sovereign. Less mellifluous, Get Off My Foot.

William Gaines - The Romance of a Queen and the aforementioned Memory Lane, with Eleanor Boardman.

Corinne Griffith was the star of The Bramble Bush, Lilies of the Field and The Garden of Eden - all used for later, and more famous, films. Also, The Divine Lady, as Lady Hamilton. Corinne was also in such interesting-sounding films as The Adventure Shop, The Unknown Quantity, The Whisper Market and What's Your Reputation Worth?. Nicer to read than one of her other titles - The Clutch of Circumstance.

As soon as I heard the title, I wanted to see Scenes from the Class Struggle In Beverly Hills, and it still makes me chuckle, but the film itself was a bit disappointing.
