I thought i would start a new Thread to see how many films and TV programmes Brit Movie Members can think of that have featured Moors, my favourite Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes long story The Hound Of The Baskervilles was largely set on Dartmoor, most film and TV versions of The Hound Of The Baskervilles have not featured any filming on Dartmoor, but have used either sets or other locations to represent Dartmoor, the 2 part BBC TV version of The Hound Of The Baskervilles from the 1968 Sherlock Holmes TV series (which starred Peter Cushing and Nigel Stock as Holmes and Watson) was largely filmed on Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor featured in an episode of Wycliffe (one of my favourite ITV Detective series), the episode was called Number Of The Beast (1996), the popular ITV Police Drama series Heartbeat was set and filmed on the North Yorkshire Moors, i know that a lot of films and TV programmes which were supposed to have Moors as locations have often used either a set or other location to represent a Moor, i am sure Brit Movie Members can think of many more films and TV programmes that have featured Moors (whether they be real Moors, sets or other locations used to represent a Moor).

Dartmoor (the setting for a large part of my favourite Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes long story The Hound Of
    The Baskervilles)

IMDb has 11 adaptations of LORNA DOONE. It's not clear if any of them used Exmoor.
The most recent adaptation (TV, 2000) was filmed in the Brecon Beacons.

Several scenes in the TV series Doc Martin were filmed on Bodmin Moor and the 1985 film Revolution used Burrator Reservoir on Dartmoor for some of its outside location shots.....

    EL CID (1961)

THE 39 STEPS (1935) used Scottish locations, so it should be possible to identify the moor.

I once had the pleasure of driving the late great Anthony Newley to one of his fan club meetings. During the journey we spoke about "X the Unknown" which he told me was filmed on some wet and windy moors in Scotland.

Was that the wet & windy Scottish moor in the Beaconsfield gravel pits?
That's where most of it was filmed

Who was I to argue with the great man. In any event all those years ago I didn't have the Jimmy Sangster autobiography or any of the Hammer books to disagree. Indeed, if he'd have told me that it was a wet and windy moor in Chelsea I'd have probably been quite happy. But in fact that was what he said. (Scotland not Chelsea). cassidy

I can remember that Dartmoor featured in at least two episodes of the ITV series The Bill (i think it is a two part story that i am thinking of), i can remember that Peter Ellis (Ch. Supt. Charles Brownlow) appeared in both episodes.
