Default Which DVD format is best for recording films off tv...

... which can then be copied for trades?

It's just that I recorded quite a few onto DVD- R discs but the when I tried to play them on other machines they weren't recognised.

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Thanks.

Thanks - I used DVD-R and the only machine they played back on was the machine they were recorded on (a Panasonic E55) - would they have done this if they'd not been finalised?

Yes - in many cases DVD's will not play on other machines (especially older ones) until they have been finalised. Once you have finalised them though you can no longer record on that DVD.

If im recording off Tv I always use DVD RW and then import them into Nero Vision and encode with full menus etc.... and then burn onto DVD+R

Can I please ask - how do you actually finalise? I just set to record and I thought that was it.

Thanks for all the advice - I'm just a bit paranoid about doing a swap and then finding out I've sent someone a dud.

You go to the other functions on the menu on the dvd side.this is the bottom entry, click on that .the menu will the include finalise, you click on that and then it is just a matter of clicking yes.I know the problem as it took me some time to discover how to finalise.Unfortunately most intsruction books nowdays are extremely unhelpful.Anyway hope this is of assistance.

If you don't have manual you could check your manufacturer's website. Alternatively put up your model number here and someone might be able to tell you.
