A thread to tell favourite anecdotes of actors and film personnel.

A lovely one of Wilfred Lawson told by Barry Cryer in a book of his.

Wilfred who was no stranger to the grape was appearing on stage with Nicol Williamson, Wilf went to lunch to one day and had not returned when rehearsals had started. Nicol, centre stage. went into a violent tirade about what a drunk Wilfred was, how unreliable etc etc. When he paused for breath Wilf's inimitable voice came from the back of the theatre " I thought that speech had been cut."

Christopher Lee recounted how in his younger days, Noel Coward had been ticked off for missing his cues. Then, in one production, Noel energetically leaped onto the stage when it was his cue. Afterwards the director commended him for this, but wondered why his entrance was so dramatic.

"I was geesed by the staged manager", said Noel

"You mean goosed", said the director

"No", said Noel, "He used two fingers".

Elmore Leonard wrote the screenplay for The Moonshine War from his novel. On the set, Patrick McGoohan came up to him and asked, “What’s it like standing there hearing your words all fucked up?”

It's not really an anecdote, but I always remember Prunella Scales answering the question "What's your idea of perfection?". "Relaxing in my garden, with lots of work coming up."
I just think it's the actor's absolute dream: lots of work, but not yet.

And a case of pot and kettle I would have thought given Nicol's reputation!

I liked Sir Roger Moores answer when on Parky one night as he was being asked about his view of film critics....
Those who can Do, those who can't ...teach, and those who can't do either become film critics.....

I can hear him saying it.
