The most two over rated horror films were Psycho and The Exorcist - both bored me to death.
Scary films for me:
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari
Nosferatu
Dead of Night
The Haunting 1963 version
Poltergeist
Blair Witch Project
The Others

When i watched Psycho as a kid, i didn't find anything scary about it - and all very tame up to the gore available on VHS at the time. Then many years later i watched it again as an adult and it scared the 'you know what' out of me. And it still does on repeat viewings. Every time we see Marion in the shower i dread the soon to appear shot through the curtain of the door opening in the room and a dark figure entering...![]()
I was 2 years below the legal age for admission to Psycho when it played but my friend of the same age was very tall so I borrowed my uncle's long pants and my friend bought the tickets for us. For me, the tension had already begun before I even got passed the usher!
The cinema was packed and the girls were screaming their heads off at the shower scene. I was in shock as I watched Norman clean the bathroom.

The Day the Earth stood still. (original - the remake is a joke!)
Quatermass and the Pit.
The Devil Rides Out.
Pinocchio (Disney)
Circus of Horrors
anything at all with the wonderfully menacing Charles Grey !
Ha ha a few people have said The haunting 1963!
If you haven`t seen it, I dare you (with lights out!).
I saw recently Sam Raimi's Drag me to Hell/2009, and I was quite surprised that it was a direct hommage to Jacques Tourneur's Nigt of the Demon. Pretty scary too, if you liked his Evil Dead style (the 1rst)

Island of Lost Souls/E.C Kenton/1932
Saw it yesterday on a decent copy at last. There are obvious lacks in the soundtrack (no sound for steps or movings for example) as it seems the film is between a silent and a talkie (it was one of the first with sound) but it increases the strangeness of this weird island ...think I'll watch it again tonight
What to say again about Charles Laughton ?? ...nothing except that he is the definitive Moreau
Vidéo L'île du docteur Moreau de fidjie (Musique - fidjie) - wat.tv
What is the law ??
