As well all know, Hollywood will remake ANYTHING, with no classic being immune to their cash churning........yes, we all know it is cheaper and less risky to remake a film which already has a target audience, but it just doesnt seem right, does it?

so, with this in mind i am going to avoid the bad remakes and concentrate on the good remakes and beg for more - here are a few good remakes

    The Thing
    Scarface
    King Kong
    Fargo
    Magnificent 7
    the Fly

Now, if you had a big budget and could remake ANY film, which films would feature on your radar.......for me:

Shining (i am on the fence with this one, but would love to see a true to the book transfer............because the original was sooooo good i cannot commit though)
Dracula (i have always wanted a great version of this ......Christopher Lee once said he woulld play Dracula in a faithful to the book transfer (may be a bit old now though...LOL)

    the floor is open

Which King Kong re-make are you referring to....as that Jack Black effort was terrible. I'd rather watch King Kong Escapes...

As for remakes, I'd love to see a first rate Jason and the Argonauts re-make.
Not like that Bloody awful Clash of the Titans re-make. Maybe Harryhausen could over see this one...

yeah, i really loved the Peter Jackson 'effort' - the monsters and t-rex scenes were great..........

I agree about the Jackson King Kong remake .... far too long and with too many gorilla v dinosaur scenes, plus the ending was truly dire. Even the 1970s remake is better than that version as are all the Toho 'King Kong' films.

I liked the King kong remake.

I`d like to see Tim Burton do Jack the ripper! But he would have to have someone else rather than Johnny Depp to play the inspector as
      Spoiler:
he died in that part in the end of `from hell`, so it would be a bit silly to cast him in that part again really

Helena could still play a victim, 30 year old prostitutes looked about 50 then.

    I think you're wrong.

It won the best original screenplay Oscar, for one thing.

I'm happy (now) that 'The Woman in Black' has been re-made but only because it is:
    A) An adaptation of a book by a british author with the authors blessing
A British film with a British cast
    C) It has no shit 3D and minimal CGI (so i hear)
    D) Although I would have loved it being released at Christmas,my hated month of February will be made slightly less depressive I hope.

I know this is not quite in the true meaning of this thread, but it would be nice to see a lot of the old bioflicks remade on TV. Like Reach For The Sky over six to ten episodes instead of the original 136mins. The budgets and CGI are out there.

Tora Tora where there is a squadron of Spitfires coming in on the fateful day instead of the B17's, they are en route for somewhere. They engage the Japs and score loads of victories (in vain.. lets not change history eh?) The gallant remainder land and emerge from the dust and smoke to the tune of the RAF March where nurses mob them for saving the hospital and grateful Americans shake their hands. Something like that submarine decoder thingy film.

After watching television re-runs of "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" on Youtube lately (Edward Mulhare looked so good back then!) I'd be interested in seeing a remake of the classic film with Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney.

torinfan where did you get that lovely avatar of Torin from? He certainly is yummy Going back to remakes of famous films. I'd really love to see a good English production of Robin Hood, now I know it has been over done, but usually with American or Australian actors as Robin. What about Richard Armitage as Robin, he I think could pull it off. Only where would the money come from? No chance really when the funds come from over
the pond, and they think their leading actors can convincingly to be one of our leading folklore legends. Shame.

No offence intended to any, Lovely Americans, or Australians reading.

There already is a really good English film of Robin Hood. It just happens to have an Irish lead, a Dutch villain, a Welsh Will Scarlett and an American Maid Marian Though we were allowed to keep Little John...

A 1933 theatre programme of "Charley's Aunt" at the Gaiety Theatre. Doesn't he look fabulous.

He was 29 years old there! So young. *sigh*

Who is Danny Dyer? I already like The Glass Mountain as it is. Michael Dennison and Dulcie Grey make a great pairing in this film. And as I own it, and it is a great favourite of mine, hands off

When we see photos of our favourites when they were really young, they always delightfully surprise me. You are right, he is just fabulous.
