Heard a little of and from nominees on Front Row this evening driving back from work. Surprise no Ryan Gosling nomination - or Michael Fassbender, but pretty good choices IMO.

Nice to see Christopher Plummer up for one! At 82 and never won - got to be a good bet.

But then, he's up against the excellent Max Von Sydow - same age and he's never won either!

Christopher Plummer should have got one for The Insider but he wasn't even nominated...

Without Uggie , Best Supporting Actor is going to be a close one. Though my money is on Ken as this year's token Brit winner.

Plummer had been winning a lot of awards already - I think this is his turn. They should give Von Sydow a lifetime honorary one later in the year because he's earned it.

Am I the only person who have never got the hype about Ryan Gosling?. I dont think he is remotely anything special.

Noooooo!!! Well, that's one viewer they've lost Though on a pedantic note, surely he's just The Dog in the film?

Nor me, I've not even seen a film with Michael Fassbender in it yet, though I keep hearing his name all the time, like at last Sunday's BAFTA's, etc; I'm sure I will eventually, I have the impression Michael is one of these 'method' actors in the Daniel Day-Lewis mold who actually live and breath the part in every way imaginable whilst filming.

The last two films I've seen him in - Jane Eyre and A Dangerous Method - he was actually very dull, IMO. Which is fine if you're playing a geeky psychoanalyst but disastrous if you're playing a Great Romantic Hero.
