Default Delbert Mann, dead.

Just read that American Director Delbert Mann has died, he was 87. Delbert was of course the Director of one of the best films of the early fifties "MARTY" starring unknown actors, Ernest Borgnine and Julie Harris.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR...YOU MAY GET IT!

He also directed one of the last 'Hollywood England' movies (according to Sheridan Morley) Separate Tables which got David Niven and Wendy Hiller their oscars

I've always enjoyed MARTY. Respect is due for that alone...

My goodness. I assumed he had died years ago!

Marty and Separate Tables are both wonderful films.

Nope he turned up on a documentary about Niven a few years ago to talk about directing him in his oscar winning performance.

Oh, and I'm really enjoying revisiting Lover Come Back (1961)... in Delbert's honour.

I enjoyed The Dark At The Top Of The Stairs and his version of Kidnapped.

RIP.

Bats.

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

I'd forgotten (or never realised in the first place) how funny Lover Come Back was. And saucy! If you thought Carry On had the corner on sexual innuendo in the '60s, you were wrong. And this was only 1961!
