Default Biographies

Who's life story would you love to be made into a film, there are a few i would love to see; John Inman, Ronnie Baker and Richard Beckinsale just a few that i think would make great movie biographies.

From what Hoggers has told us about James Robertson Justice, JRJ's life would make a fantastic film!

Agree with you there Harley, a great choice.

My favourite biography is The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. Jeffrey Rush was just brilliant as the late great man and with such an excellent supporting cast it must truly go in British film history as a classic.

Rush looked like him, spoke like him and was in my mind Sellers. Even the scenes from his movies that were done by Rush and Co were excellently done, especially from The Pink Panther, I'm Alright Jack and Being There.

Sellers was a class act bar none and had the mind of a comic lunatic. God bless you Peter and an excellent job done Jeffrey.

You've prompted me to go and buy a copy of "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers", I kept meaning to go and see it when it was at the cinema but never got around to it and I had forgotten about it until your reminder!
I think Sellers was a tragi-comic figure in some ways and that always makes good drama! I believe his heart problem was hastened by his desire to stay slim (amphetimines)and be more of a leading man, its ironic that someone so succesful as a funny man should feel frustrated that he was never seen as a straight romantic lead. I guess biographical stories are more interesting if they feature the highs contrasted by the lows, succesful actors and entertainers often have less than succesful personal lives, I wonder if that is a hazard of the occupation.
I think a biography of Richard Burton would be quite a colourful movie!

Norma Farnes (his agent) biography of Spike is a very good read.

Hancock, more because I'm a fan than the prospect of it making a good film.

I'm a Hancock fan too.

What did you think of the Alfred Molina film? I enjoyed it and I thought Molina was superb.

Jim Dale did a good job on that. And to have Spike playing his old man was a clever touch.

But they did only cover the first few autobiographical books. It got even more sad and serious when they got to Italy. That's where Spike was too close to an exploding mortar round which gave him "shell shock" (PTSD). That seems to have brought on the bipolar disorder which wasn't all that noticeable up until then

It's little wonder that The Goons were so popular. Most of the population knew what it was like to be on the front-line with a good chance of being killed at any time and that's the craziness that led to a lot of their humour.

Never caught it. It's one of many I'm hoping BBC4 will give an airing to.

He was too tall for the part but caught the desperation of the lad himself. A decade before Molina there was a BBC play about Hancock agonising on his own before the recording of The Blood Donor can't remember who played him or what it was called but I remember it favourably and in the late '60s George Cole played a Hancocklike figure in a play about a comic on the slide. Anyone else remember them ?
