Yes, I know it isn't really a British film, but indulge me for a moment will you?

I've just been away for a few days to Cornwall and as you may know I'm rather keen on film locations, so we went to find Manderley and the boathouse on the shore below. And - for those who aren't already aware, Manderley is really Menabilly, near Fowey, which was Daphne du Maurier's house for many years after she bought and restored it. Unfortunately, visitors can't really get anywhere near the house, or even see it from a distance.

However, the boathouse is there (actually a rather nice house owned by the National Trust I think) with a truly magical walk from Coombe Farm above Fowey, down to Polridmouth Bay (pronounced Pridmouth) on a sunny warm February day. Just wonderful! And - there really is a boat wrecked in the bay.

Regarding Rebecca location, here is an interesting Web page on Hitchcock's movie locations. Rebecca was his first film in America and shot near San Francisco.

I always thought that a suprise location was "Inn of the Sixth Happiness" supposed to be China but was actually the Welsh mountains!

It's funny you should ask that,but I was actually talking with Luke Goss(ex Bros star)recently about his latest film project-a supernatural thiller--he came into where I work and I recognised him and started conversation(as you do!)he said they were filming near St Agnes(North Cornwall)and it was going very well,although he wouldn't give too much away he was very charming,polite and every bit the gentleman.Mmmm wait and see what it's like! Yes, I know what you mean, I lived in Seattle once (i.e. - it can get sunny there too). Fantastic for gardening and weekend adventures.

Well, since we're being frivollous, I once had a very, very early edition of the book, which starts, not with the creepy description of the drive, but with Maxim and Whatserface sitting on a terrace somewhere in a warm country long after the event. He takes a great interest in the public school batting averages, so I think we have to assume that they have at least one son and that things went a bit better for them. Did anyone notice in the film, by the way, that the so-English Mrs dW2, on getting her scrambled eggs in Monte Carlo, transfers her fork to the right hand and shovels it down American-style?
