Oh dear. Helen Mirren. This is another one of those man/woman things. I don't see what's so 'special'. Blind spot, I'm afraid.

Helen Mirren, talented, intelligent, sexy, sensual and sassy.

2010 is still crap though.

The Damned with Dirk Bogarde...truly dull and dreadful.

Colonel Redl, without doubt. Tedious doesn't even come close. We showed in on 35mm at our local film society years ago. 11 x 20 min reels. By reel 6 most of the audience had either walked out or fallen asleep. Neil, projecting with me that night, and I decided to show the last reel after reel 7 - give me the biggest stack of bibles you can find because I swear that not one person noticed! Either that or they were past caring like the rest of us!!!

What about 'Death In Venice',i'm a Dirk Bogarde fan and i know this film is highly regarded, but i found it utterly tedious.
Much prefer the great 'Night Porter' as a favourite Bogarde '70's movie

Default Don't Look Now

Don't Look Now with Donald Sutherland & Julie Christie I heard was some kind of little known gem, heard it called one the best British horrors ever, guess I'm not smart enough, I found it long and boring, with a what the f*ck? ending. Guess I was waiting for a big pay off that just didn't happen for me.

Two films I've always thought I should admire, but I'm with you guys in not understanding why they are held in such high regard.

Death In Venice and Don't Look Now do nothing for me either. DIV is so slow that I have usually nodded off when trying to watch it and have never seen the end. DLN is intriguing but in no way justifies it's reputation. The only saving grace for both of them is the cinematography.

That's hilarious. Though perhaps not if you were there. I saw a free preview of Jarman's The Last of England (it may even have been the premiere) which at least half the audience walked out of. People were wuite literally tripping over each other to get out (I know because I was one of the trampled upon!)

There is a low budget Scottish film called the Purifiers which is absolutely excruciating to watch. No plot to speak of, cyphers for characters essayed by charisma free actors and a badly realised fight scene every five minutes ( usually in slow motion).

LOL.. That reminds me of when I took my grandson to see one of them. On the way out we overheard this chap speaking to his son. The boy asked did you enjoy the film then dad? The father answered yes son it was fantastic! The father then said to the boy, now can you explain to me son what it was about so I can tell your mother once we get home I know she will be interested?
My grandson turned to me and exclaimed what a thick sod. I didn’t have the heart to say that makes two of us…

I totally agree about The Excorcist - dull, dull, dull with cardboard characterisations. Absolutely the most over-praised film in existence. In my opinion.
